Just thought I would say hello on the forum. I just bought a guinea pig (headed back today to pick up his brother), they are both 5 weeks old.

I've had gp's before but that was a long time ago, before the days of guinea pig forums and how-to videos on youtube. I have learned so much the past week looking things up.

Well, just wanted to say hello!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

We have lots of information and experience on here, so don;t hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

I am looking forward to pictures of your little boys!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome.

"Cookie" was the first one I bought 3 days ago, then today I went back to get another one I called "Mr. Scruff" - he has crazy fur that makes me smile.

I think the introduction went pretty well. Mr.Scruff is smaller but I was told they came in at the same time. Cookie (the first one) is making little rumbly noises every so often, and wagged his bum around a bit but in between the rumbly noises they are snugged up sleeping together.
What do you guys think?

I was worried there would be a brawl or biting but nothing so far. They're cage is right by where I work so I can hang out with them most of the day.

Ok, Cookie is now on top of Mr.Scruff but they seem ok. This is the first time I have had 2 guinea pigs at the same time but I have been reading two are better than one.
Wish me luck! :)

new to forums and piggies

Hi I'm new to forums
i have a baby guinea named charely had him 1 week, last time i had one was when i was 10 many moons ago :)
ive learnt alot about them in the week ive had him, i think they are fascinating, had hamsters which sadly have passed away or growing old, so piggies are a new challenge for me
Didnt realise there were so many diff breeds not sure what he is yet when i get the time ill upload a pic

Hi and welcome. I am so pleased you have two piggies rather then one. The rumbling noise you hear is a sign of dominance. One piggy always has to be the boss. :) I hope you will put pictures up of your babies for us all to see.

Thanks. I'll try and post a picture soon. THey're so small so I want to be sure to capture them before I forget.

There's less rumbling now and more happy guinea pig noises so I think they're going to settle in and be buddies. I just wish they'd figure out their stairs. Do you think I should keep their food up top and let them figure it out? They have access to hay and water but all treats and pellets are up the steps on the second level.

They are currently tearing around the cage, I think Cookie is doing a dominance thing again.

is the ramp quite steep or covered? it took mine a couple of months to figure it out, i put a long sock over it filled with hay at first with holes cut in so they walked up it without realising munching away on the hay poking out the holes. but now i've got a tunnel ramp from cosy cavies which they love :) x

Thanks I'll look into the tunnel ramp. It is just a plastic ramp that came with their cage. I like your sock idea! I'll give that a go for sure.

Cucumber on a string

Tunnel Ramp is the way to go & if you need to entice them up more a piece of cucumber on a string & drag it up (like playing with a cat ) took my 3 week old boar 5 mins to work this out !:))

That's a really nice cage!
The one I have now is going to be too small once the babies get bigger. It is a good size for one GP but I think I'm going to adapt it with some more tunnel ramps and another level when the GP's get bigger.

I'm happy to say that they have figured out the ramp. Well, Mr.Scruff figured it out then bossy Cookie followed him up.

What kind of bedding do you folks use? I have the paper stuff which is rather pricey but it doesn't seem to smell at all.
