Hi everyone,

I'm a new GP mom, we just got 2 yesterday. They are approximately 2-3 months old.

One of them seems inquisitive, but the other barely moves from his hidey.
The few times we have seen him move, he seems to have a back leg limp. He also seems to be scratching his nose a lot.

I'm so worried, as I dont know what is normal behavior and when to start panicking.

They have only fleece and hay in their habitat, no sawdust (I read it might cause respiratory issues).

I really hope he's ok.

While it is normal for new piggies to be scared and hide a lot initially, given you already have health concerns it would be very wise to have your piggy checked by a vet.
Please do take them both along to the appointment for two reasons: 1. It is always best that they remain together at all times as it reduces stress. 2. It is always a good idea to have any piggies vet checked in any event so while you may only have immediate concerns about one of them, a check of them both never hurts.

I hope he is ok

Welcome to the forum ☺️
It's a good idea for the reasons outlined above, but it's also a good idea because it lets you check out your vet and their attitude to guinea pigs before something urgent arises. I tried 3 practices before I found one I was happy with. The first two were good but mainly used to cats and dogs - not everyone had an interest, in or experience with, small furries. Also the vet you saw on the day was just chance. But at my current practice - a bit further away - they have more than one vet on every day so you can ask for one who really likes guinea pigs!

I agree it's a good idea to vet check new pigs, especially if you have concerns, but even if you don't.

The hiding is normal, however. He is probably just a more timid pig and will need more time to get used to his new surroundings.

Would like to say thank you so much for all the advice. So happy to say we have happy and healthy boys. They are settling in so nicely and already sniffing our hands and will take snacks off our hands already. Been spending every moment possible with them to get them used to us.
The "strange" behaviour turned out to be shyness and of course scared of new surroundings.
We are already completely in love!

Good on your for getting them checked out, it does put your mind at rest 😊 Sounds like your little boys have come in leaps and bounds. Enjoy the fun and relax 👍
