Hi Welcome to the forum, glad you have some good advice from Helen. Sorry to hear your piggie is poorly. You are doing very well. Piggies will fight the syringe with Baytril as it tastes horrible so your doing a good job.

I would arrange a check up for next week so the vet can assess how the infection is clearing up. Lot of healing vibes to your piggie. Please keep us updated.

C'mon Joey we are all rooting for you!

Yes I would book an appointment for a weeks time and keep giving the antibiotics until then. Should you notice any further symptoms then seek veterinary advice straight away. Did you manage to get any probiotic? how are his poos?

I didnt manage to get any, the only pets at home near to me is half an hour away and I cannot drive and theres no one who could take me after work as I work full time and I suppose they would be shut then anyway :( I did ask my local pet shop but they didnt have any anymore, I really wish I could get him some, he seems to be pooing fine, I havent noticed lack of them or any loose ones.. Thankyou sport billy he seems to be doing okay at the moment *touch wood*

Ellie1631 could you update your profile with your location, that way if we ever need to recommend anywhere local to you we can do.

Keep us updated :)

I live in lincolnshire haha, I can order online, shall it matter that he wont be on it for the next couple of days until it arrives?

Ah damnit. Yes that's fine, is good to have in your medicine box anyway.

I will order some now then! :) thanks a lot for your help, I dont know many people who are serious guinea pig owners that would be able to help me so that's why I joined the forum!

Is there a way I can give him that other than in his water? (To stop the other boys drinking it all)

It wouldn't do them any harm to have it but you can mix it up as per the instructions on the pot and give by syringe. I sometimes sprinkle it on their dry food too though I have one pig who goes round licking it all up. I would not put it in the water bottle anyway as it tends to deteriorate.

He seems fine, just got to pick up the probiotic from the post office tomorrow! He seems his usual self but I want to take him back to the vets to be sure as I wont be able to know for sure if hes better will I? How can I tell? Thanks for checking back :)

Great news, glad to hear he is feeling much better

Hi Everyone, Took Joey back to the vets again last night as he came off his antibiotics on sunday night and on wednesday evening and yesterday morning he seemed very lethargic but was still eating etc. but i do think he still has a bit of a head tilt? When i took him to the vet she said he seems very healthy and his chest sounds fine, she said he may benefit from a longer course of the bayrtril? (which makes me think why, why does he need more if he is better?) and also prescribed some panacur i think its called to worm him, it says 0.2 once a day for nine days so i have started that last night, but i havent yet started him on baytril as i am not sure that he needs any more of it? maybe he was just generally lethargic both times i watched him?i dont want to give him the bayrtil and the wormer and overload him especially with the baytril being so harsh on their stomachs?

any help would be much appreciated

Sorry I missed your last update. I would think it is ok to give both, I routinely worm my pigs with Panacur but is is one dose every 3 months. If he still has a slight head tilt he most likely still has an infection so I would carry on with the Baytril or ask your vet about a different type of antibiotic. Keep him on the probiotic too.

so is 0.2 once a day for nine days a correct dose for worming him?

I am not too sure, but I may be able to check. The one off dose I do is 0.4ml but I think the Panacur % has changed since I last bought it. The vet would be used to prescribing it though.

I have seen it dosed at 0.14ml once a day for 4 weeks but it was for a completely different condition so I would go with what the vet has prescribed.
