I just got some new pellets for my guinea pigs. They are the pellets from RedKite and are supposedly better for the guinea pigs. They are full of vitamin C and help them have a balanced diet. So since getting these pellets my guinea pigs have not touched their pellet bowl. I mixed the new pellets with the old ones since I had 1/4 left of the old ones and didnt want to waste them. Now my guinea pigs just pick and choose which pellets they want to eat. How do I get my guinea pigs used to the new pellets? They pet store ordered 6 or so bags for me so I kinda want the guinea pigs to eat them.

Hi, I recently started my guinea on a pellets and veg mix she wouldn't touch it either at first , so I decided to move them away from her fresh food. Since guinea have a high sense of smell I figured she may not like them so close together and now she eats it fine except the corn pieces she don't like. I wouldn't mix it together and try moving the pellets around the habit. Gl

The best thing is to mix old pellets with new so that it doesn’t upset their tummies and they get used to it gradually. While there are still old pellets left then they will probably go for what they know. It’ll just take time for them to get used to it. You do however have to bear in mind that they may not like the new pellets!

@Eva121 sorry to hijack your thread but @Yolanda. It sounds as if you’re feeding a muesli style mix rather than an all in one plain hay/grass based pellet. In case that is what it is, Muesli mixes encourage selective feeding so they will only pick out the nice bits. However, muesli style mixes are not recommended as they aren’t particularly healthy and contain grains which aren’t good for piggies.

Yeah aside from the pellets there's corn n pea bites it's all natural an by carefresh complete but I have notice she picks out the pea bits an leaves the rest. Since I already have the huge bag can I pick out the veg an give her the pellets then buy just pellets next time
