Hello, I'm a new piggy Mom, thought this was the best place to post this?

Just been in the back room to check on my pigs, give them a stroke, some more veggies and to get them used to me etc.

I've noticed today Walt has a cut to his upper ear. It looks like a bit of dried blood and a scab. Considering I've only had them both a week, should i do something? They are both still very nervous of me, so I cant really grab him to have a look at it, and i don't want to hurt him or have him lose his trust in me.

Walt and Jessie both came from the same litter, they have been showing dominance behavior to each other, mainly, bottom sniffing and mounting. It looks like Walt is coming out on top. Should I be worried? Is this normal? I haven't seen them fighting otherwise id have stopped it. Any advice? TIA x

Please disinfect the ear with saline solution which you can make from mixing 1/2 teaspoon of salt into 1/2 pint or 250ml of boiled, cooled water. keep an eye on the ear; sometimes it can signal the beginning of fungal. If you can, use latex gloves when handling him, just to be safe.

A cut to the ear can happen rather easily, but please keep a close eye on your boys. You can find information about boar behaviour at the top of our behaviour section and are welcome to ask any questions you have about their relationship anytime you feel you need support.

Thankyou, will it hurt him to have it put on? I haven't actually handled him yet x

No, it shouldn't hurt as it has likely started to scab over already. Make sure that you have somebody else who can hold him or that you are sitting on the floor in case he panics and jumps blindly.
