baby piggie

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move.
I'm new to guinea pigs and i just got two yesterday, they seem to be eating okay but they dont seem to be drinking, i cant remember if they had a water bottle were they came from but they dont seem to have drunk any from their bottle, i dont know what kind of bowl to put in as i dont want it spilling. I'm worried that they dont know how to use the bottle, will they be okay - will it just take time for them to come round?

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

My Mildred doesn't drink when she's unsettled. When George (her cagemate) goes to stay with the rodentologist she won't drink at all. I make sure that she has extra cucumber to make sure she has access to some sort of water.
Hope this helps :)

How old are they? I am sure its because every thing is new to them. If you are giving them veg as well they might not need to drink very much. All guinea pigs are different, I have one that can drink a bottle on her own and I have had some in that have stayed for a holiday and they didnt seem to take a drop! As long as they are eating well and that there water bottle is low enough so they an reach. Some eles might be able to give you more advice

Could you sit them on your lap with the water bottle and just touch their lips with the bottle. Don't force it in obviously but they'll know what the end feels like and the sound of the bottle etc. I would just put a small heavy bowl in the corner of the cage, not too full. Some guineas don't drink much, I expect you'll see them drinking soon though.

Thanks for the replies! i have ten rats and a snake, but have never had guinea pigs before - they have such cute little faces!
I had been giving them some extra veg so that they got some kind of water. Thats a good idea about sitting the guinea pigs pn my lap and showing them the water bottle. :)

Oh! i never knew that! i have been trying to read up on them. Last night i had the piggies out and they were on my lap and i was stroking them. Smudge kept nudging my hand onto his head, the both of them were making squeeking nosies together. Is this a noise of fear as the wearnt struggling or anything or is it enjoyment?
