Junior Guinea Pig
Hi guys,
We’ve had our little girls for almost three weeks now. They were around 18 weeks old as as far as we know have been indoors their whole lives.
They were very nervous when we got them but have come on leaps and bounds. They now come out squeaking when we go into the room where their cage is and they will come and be hand fed and sniff fingers.
We have only really had them out to clean their cage and I get them in a cuddle pouch thing and put it in a pop up run, but they just hide.
Anyway, we’ve been picking grass for them everyday and building up the amount they eat and I’d like to get them out in a garden run in the day time.
I need advice on the steps to take to get there. Is it too soon? They are very comfortable in their cage (c&c indoor). I started handling them tonight, one at a time, into the cuddle bag, quick stroke around the ears and nose and back into their cage. They were pretty happy afterwards and popcorned about and happily took a dandelion reward to bring good piggies. They didn’t seem traumatised by their first little strokes.
I thought it was time to start getting them used to it. So if I make sure I do that every eve shall I carry on for a few weeks and work up to some brief trips out in a run?
Advice welcome! Thank you x
