Went to pick up some pigs last night, due to 'son losing interest in them' ::) - was expecting it to be Mum, Dad and baby boar - when I got there I found another baby had been rehomed to next door neighbour, was living with rabbit in tiny hutch and they thought it was a boy but it's a girl and possibly pregnant - v. lumpy! So I couldn't leave her there.

The other 3 turned out to be a sow (mum), boar (dad) and baby boar (who they had called Mavis because originally thought to be a girl) was in fact a girl and has been living with Dad for past few weeks. Before that they were all still living together....

So, I've gone from 2 boars and one possibly pregnant sow, to 1 boar and 3 possibly pregnant sows, 2 of which are far too tiny to carry babies and the Mum has already had one litter at 6 months old.

Introducing:

Trevor - Dad pig
Boar, originally from P@H, 8 months:

Trudy - Mum pig - originally found dumped in car park at pet shop

They don't weigh much, Dad is 750g, Mum just 600g and babies are 400g.

Dad and baby were living in hamster cage and Mum in a plastic box with lid! They had hutches but had moved the pigs out because they are getting Rex rabbits to breed :tickedoff:

Interesting evening anyway! Pigs all ok overnight and eating like - well, pigs! They will be rehomed once they've either had babies or are def. not pregnant.

Well done Sophie! :) :)
The one in the box on top of the other one looks pregnant :o

xx

Sophie to the rescue again. Well done O0 It sickens me that there are people out there who do this kind of thing. They are all gorgeous and I hope that they all end up having a happy life :smitten:

- that is Mum pig, Trudy - she doesn't really look as pear shaped as that really but chance are she's in the early stages of pregnancy...

If the babies are pregnant, their Dad is the father... :'(

It sickens me that there are people out there who do this kind of thing.

The scary thing is they were nice enough people - pigs were well fed etc. but they just didn't know anything about how quickly they reproduce or when to separate babies etc. - it's a worrying story that is repeated on here frequently - look at the Wells pigs last week - same issue really, people were ok but didn't have a clue and ended up with 8 pigs from 2..... Very sad. Education needed!

All ok this morning and squeaking at me for second breakfast! :smitten:

well done on taking on yet more rescues O0 you're amazing, I couldn't do it. Really hope mum and baby pigs aren't pregnant, but if they are hope they all get through it ok :(

thank god you got them out of there but i pity the poor bunnies they intend to start breeding they obviously have no idea :tickedoff: wonder how long it ll take for the bunny novelty to wear off :tickedoff: i dont understand people like that , they think their gonna make a fortune out of breeding when the reality is you dont, most of the time if your babies are cared for proparly and well fed you d be lucky to break even. :) for the piggies
:'( for the bunnies

Well done Sophie, poor little loves, got everything crossed that the girlies are NOT expecting. Keep us posted.

well done sophie. O0 it is a shame the people didn't learn more before they got the guinea pigs. at least the piggies were well fed and looked after and weren't neglected. hoping mum and daughters aren't pregnant, they are all sweethearts. you are an angel and do a marvellous job O0 0:) sending hugs and healing vibes to you and the piggies and hope they end up happy, healthy and in a forever home :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Well the 3 girls are now settled indoors until I know whether they are pregnant or not - all eating well (hungry pigs!), but very very scatty and the most difficult to catch pigs I've had!

Trevor is in his own hutch outdoors and is sulking badly being on his own - but until he's all clear he'll have to put up with it, poor boy - then we'll find him a friend.

well done you! if they can't look after the piggies why breed rabbits? - oh people annoy me.
They are really lovely, they should pile the wieght on now they have a good diet and some love. x

They're eating for England! Unfortunately I had them out last night and I think one of the youngsters (400g) is probably pregnant. The others we will wait and see!

I think education is needed there! And how can they get ready to breed rabbits when they haven't even got the slightest clue on how to sex piggies....what luck will they have with the rabbits then.....
Oh some people make me mad! :o

I have decided I want Betty..... she is so gorgeous..... if only i was closer i might have pig-napped her. xx

Just a quick update on these guys..

Girls still in quarantine but seem fit and healthy and eating for England. Betty def. looks pear shaped, the other two don't (yet!) so that's good. They are mad as hatters but quite sweet natured. Hoping the weight gain is more to do with good diet than early pregnancy but time will tell and we're not placing any bets yet!

Trevor still in quarantine and not happy about being by himself but hopefully will find him a friend soon or pair him with one of his babies if any of the girls are pregnant. If not I've got a couple of single boars to try him with, but they're not for rehoming so he'd have to stay for good then! But I'm quite fond of him, so we'll see!

Girls will all be rehomed once they're fit and well

so glad all is going well with them, hoping the girls aren't pregnant O0 hoping you can find good homes for the girls. a memeber lives on long island and was wondering where to get critical care for her piggy, as it isn't readily available here in oz thought i would ask. we can only get it via vet but our vet would have to order it in. hugs for the girls and poor trevor :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: you do a great job O0
