As you all know I’ve been a mission to find a new addition to the herd. With it not going well with Pippin who I sadly had to return as she hated my pigs I’ve been again on the search, scrolling all day everyday through gumtree ads and the rspca website.
Today we set off to Melbourne to meet a female who’s photo I had fallen in love with. I phoned when we was 2 hours away to check she was still available and as soon as I got there, there was already someone at the desk adopting her. I was gutted! Absolutely gutted! I’ve been a bit stressed lately so just sniffled a few tears and walked away. They didn’t have any others available at that centre. So my partner said he was happy to keep driving an extra 40 mins to the next RSPCA.
Here they had 2 4 month old boars and a 1year old boar. After a long time deciding (and falling in love with many dogs and cats) I decided on Patrick the 1 year old Abyssinian, he’s very shy and skittish but I love a big pig and would rather an older boy than a baby. And hopefully in time he’ll become a bit more relaxed being held.
It took almost 3 hrs to get home and the car aircon kept playing up but luckily today was only 22. He’s home now and seems nice and settled already.
Mary already found him and gave him a kiss through the bars. No rumbling or any noise when they met so that’s a great start! Mary loves a boy
He was desexed on the 7th November so still got a while until about the 19th December when they can all meet. But fingers crossed with the long time to get use to each other’s sight and smell hopefully all will go well!
I’ve never had a crazy haired pig!
Unsure whether to keep his name, Patrick. Or to go with either..Gizmo or Percy?
Sorry I don’t have the best photos yet as I didn’t want to stress him after the long drive.

Mary wondering who the handsome boy is..

And also, Opal is feeling much better today. Her bum is clean and there are no sloppy poops in the cage
