Hi,
Just wanted some reassurance for our two new boys. Got them yesterday from a reputable independant pet shop- they were living in the same pen. We were told that they are 2-3months old. We asked about them fighting and were told that they had always been fine and lived together with no problems. Left them alone for 24 hours and they seemed ok. However, this morning when we checked them, they seemed very uneasy with each other.....Chuck was purring and foot marching. They are also chasing each which we thought was normal.

Tonight, we got them out for the first time for a cuddle. All was going well. We were holding one each next to each other sitting on the sofa, when Chuck walked over to me, Dudley without warning pushed him down and bit his ear drawing blood. They then settled and both appeared ok. Minor nip to Chucks ear.

We have put them back into their shared hutch(hoping for the best) as nowhere else to house them overnight. We will obviously observe them but would appreciate any further advice/reassurance
Thanks

Helen and Martin

Ive been having probs too but in slightly different circumstances. Do know that even if the pigs are established, they may still fight to sort out the pecking order.

Hopefully it's just to make sure that the pecking order is established. You should definitely watch them and if there's more injuries then they should be separated. Also, you're POSITIVE that they're both males right?

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I've checked them both and am pretty sure that they are both male. They seem much calmer today so hopefully they were just stressed after being moved to their new home.

I've got two boys and there have been stages where I've thought they were going to have to be seperated but they've sorted it out now and seem best of friends. Make sure you have two of everything, ie two bottles, two bowls, two hidey holes etc so they have no need to fight and that their hutch/cage is big enough - if not you could extend it by adding a run. Have you looked at www.barmy4boars.co.uk for advice - an excellent site for boar advice

ps pics please :) :)

Thanks again guys for all of your help. Tonight we have completely scrubbed the hutch again and started from scratch as it was a second hand hutch anyway (we reckon it could have been used to house sows).

The boys seem much calmer with us tonight and we had no incidents whilst they were out. Chuck was getting rather excited and was trying to hump Dudley which wasn't well received.

Fingers crossed for a happy future. Pics as promised:

ahhh they are lovley I would say the change is making them more nervy and Dudleys just making sure chuck knows whos boss pig still, just keep an eye on them but fingers cross they will settle

my 2 are always trying to "dominate" each other which most of the time involes the one being "dominated" to lash ot at the other one's lips or ears.
i would leave them together unless it gets worse

Hi guys,
Things are just getting better and better. The boys are definately more friendly with each other and there have been no further incidents of biting.
They do seem to love a tussle when it comes to getting the most comfortable spot when out with us. Today Chuck managed to wedge Dudley down the side of the sofa, in a wrestler style pin down...don't worry he was unharmed and actually seemed to enjoy it!!
We will defiantley not be separating them at present.
Thanks for your lovely messages
Hels and Martinx ;D
