guineafriend

Hi,

I have had my Guinea Pigs for 1 week now. With some reservations I have bought 2 boys, 7 weeks old and from the same litter.
One is brave (Treacle), after 3 days he was (cautiously – granted) coming and taking cucumber from my fingers. Last night when I came in he was sat just outside his house, I put my hand in expecting him to run away but he didn’t, I stroked his head and he sat there, so I picked him up and he seemed ok – my first guinea pig cuddle!

The other (Scampy) is nervous, hides in the house when anyone walks past the cage, runs away when there is any movement and appears to have no intention of being tamed. Is there anything I can do? I am sitting with them for about 20 minutes each day when I get in from work, just trying to get them used to me, talking to them and feeding them.

Congratulations on your new piggies. You are doing everything right, keep talking and cuddling them and they will get used to you and gain some more confidence. Mine spook sometimes when I walk in, simply because they didn't hear me coming and they're used to me!

Don't worry. Some guinea pigs just take more time to get use to everything. After a while they won't be frightened when you walk by them. Just keep giving them plenty of love and everything will be just fine. O0

congrats with the piggies :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
as others have said, take your time and they will soon grow to luuurv you! don't worry about it, it's perfectly normal, and you're doing fine. Happy pig keeping! :smitten: :smitten:

awwwww you're doing real well O0 O0 O0
Yes it's wonderful that first piggie cuddle :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and now you'll be blessed with heaps more from them both eventually :smitten:
LOL i'd say you're already infatuated with your guineas and look out this place is addictive also ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

This is an awesome experience, the first cuddle. Hehe. What I did with my piggies was to set my hand just inside the cage, as still as possible, for 15-20 minutes a day. If your hand is still, they can get used to its presence. Sudden movements startle them, seeing as they are naturally prey animals.
