PINKSTARFISH

As the title suggests,I'm a new owner & want to do everything right. My babies dont seem to like me & are always running away from me! How long will it take until they are lovely & friendly like some of yours appear to be? Also, any tips would be greatful recieved!

hi, piggies do take time to settle in and trust you :) i think bribing them with food works the best ;D hand feed them their favourite foods :)

welcome to the forum

all piggies are different, there is no set amount of time they take to trust you :)

Hello and welcome! How old are your piggies and how long have you had them? Some take longer than others but regular handling usually makes them much tamer and bolder. Persevere!

Some of my boys were wild for the first few months but are now lovely friendly lads - once they got past the hooligan stage! :smitten:

Hi Pinkstarfish and welcome to the forum,

it will take at a few weeks for them to stop being scared, they have to get used to there new owner and cage.

lots of fresh veggies will help win them around. for a few days don't pick them up just talk to them and sit with them for a while. then hold some veggies in your hand and let them come over to you, they will run away with it and hopefully come back for more.

they just take time to get used to new things, but will soon settle down, good luck

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I'm sure they will come around, just give them some time. I have had my piggy since christmas and he is very shy. Try feeding them veggies out of your hand and also talk to them so they get used to your voice. Also feed them at the same time, they will soon get used to it and wheek when they hear you open the fridge or rustle the salad bag :). Mine still doesn't like to be picked up and runs away but I think that's their instinct as they are prey animals.

Good luck and take care!
Anne

Thanks for the hints! They do seem to love their food,LOADS! Can you over feed them? Iv seen a lot of you mention floor time. What is this? Is there anything i should be doing every day & more importantly, anything i shouldnt? Iv only had them a week, they were a valentines present.Suppose we are all still getting to know each other!

floor time is letting them out for an hour or two free range, to ensure they get lots of exercise :)

Hi Pinkstarfish, cool name!
Do you have boys or girls? You'll have to post some pics of them!
Be careful if you let them out on the floor - best to have some sort of run - they can chew electricity wires and get into awkward places!

Welcome to the forum!

Hi there love, a big welcome from us in OZ :) (Australia)

Floor time is when you let them out of their cage or hutch and they can run around a secured or non secured area... they love it they like to play and explore, but don't be surprised if they leave little presents behind ::) so perhaps you could put down some towels for them. Whilst they're out you could sit on the floor with them and have some food as treats and just sit there quietly talking to them and they will eventually work out that you're the food person :smitten:

and as Katie said some like to chew on things they're little rascals sometimes ;D ;D ;D
Our little guy will just walk around and go under tables etcc.. and around behind the couch....

What are your piggies names??
