Just back my holidays and my 2 girls were staying with my mum/dad - the girls wooden hut was too small for them and I've come home to find that my kind Dad has made a huge wooden house for them to live in - are there any safe brands to use to stain the wood or am I best to leave it natural?

isn't you dad nice? that would have been a great surprise for you! Can't wait to see pics. I am sure you can get animal safe barnish stuff but not sure where from. xx

Hi

We use Ronseal fence life at the shelter from B&Q. Have used it for years and never had a problem. It also states on the tin that it's safe for animals and plants. We cover the outsides of the hutches and runs and then leave the insides so the piggies can happily chew the wood if they want.

I have some paint, which I believe is from B&Q, and on the tub it says it's safe around animals and non-toxic. I would assume it would be okay on a house? but I'm not entirely sure.

Oh, fab - I need to go to B@Q anyway so will check them out when I'm there - thanks.

I will take a pic of it - its a fab house for them! Their other one was too small for them and I planned on buying one after my holiday but my Dad has now saved me the money and they both fit in it now with loads of space to move around. Although Daisy loves it too much and hardly comes out now! ;D

I know some people hate the place but P@H do hutch stain which is animal friendly.

awwwww what a lovely dad you have!

Wilkinson's own brand brand is pet safe and only £4.99 for a great big tin O0

Fab - there was me thinking that I would have to leave it the way it is but now there's loadsa brands that I can use. O0

I'm going to clean them out tomorrow so will take a photo to show you - will hopefully get to the shops at the weekend to buy some stain.
