Hello and happy Friday!
I am new to the forum after getting my new piggies only on Wednesday!
I had piggies when I was younger so my partner and I decided that this would be a great way to celebrate my 25th birthday together by having some piglets :)

So I am the very proud owner of Ac and Dc. Who according to the shop are 8-10 weeks old. Will post pics when I figure out how!

I also have a competition horse who I compete on regularly and my old horse who lives the life of luxury! And also a very spoilt cat!

A quick question - is it ok to use uni bed for guinea pigs? It is a treated straw product that I use for the horses and I was wondering of it could be used for piggies?

Hello and welcome to the forum! Nice to meet you! You will quickly learn how addictive this forum is I'm sure! :))

Straw is not reccomened as a bedding for piggies as it can cause eye pokes which are not very pleasant. Unless the straw you mention is very soft and finely cut then I wouldn't reccomend using it. Have a look in our Housing section for different types of bedding that you could maybe use!

Also here is a guide to posting pictures:

Straw isnt really ideal for pigs ive used it before until i joined this forum and was advised not to as its sharp. I use newspaper and wood shavings and loads of hay. What sex are your pigs? Cant wait for pigtures! :) i have a boar (male) named ditto hes a big lad :) hes a tri coloured smooth hair. The only tips i have are to make sure your pigs are the same sex, make sure they have a large cage and x2 of everything to prevent bullying. Also pigs love vegetables such as cucumber kale spinach bell peppers tomatos strawberrys apple dandelion leaves parsley cabbage cAuliflower and many more. The main diet of a pig is made up of hay so they should have unlimited hay everyday. Take a look around this forum for tips and guidance, welcome :) xx

Hi and welcome!

I hope that you will enjoy this forum. We have lots of information and experience on all area of piggy life on here. You will get the most answers to your questions if you post in the appropriate subsections of our Care section.

The recommended RSPCA minimum cage size for 2 guinea pigs is 2x4 ft; we recommend 2x5 ft for two boys. You can find out more about cheap cages and alternative housing solutions in our housing section.

Straw is not recommended bedding for piggies; guinea pigs too close to the ground and can easily end up with scratches and injuries to their privates or eyes. 80% of the diet should be hay anyway. There are alternative bedding solutions to straw and wood chippings; again, you can find out more in our housing section.

Thanks for the tips guys :-)
They are both girls :-)
The bedding is a very finely chopped straw that is pretty soft. But I will stick to shavings. They are living in a large ferplast cage in my study until the spring then they will be out in the garden in a enourmous hutch :-)
