CharlottiesPiggies

Hey all, as of yesterday I am the proud owner of two lovely little piggies (Merry & Rosie - will post photos later) I have an old hutch which they are in, and an old chicken ark for them to run around in for the spring/summer.

I had guinea pigs when I was 7 and first in my current house, that was 12 years ago! now I feel I want more responsibility - anyway out of interest what kind of toys can I get that will encourage them to be more playful & confident. I might put some twigs in and a metal hay ball for them to push around.

But what else could I get for them?

anyone? mum and I just went to go see them, we picked fresh grass and some veg too, they were happily squeaking away :D

To be honest I don't bother with toys, mine aren't keen. Tunnels they love, igloos, good quality hay, readigrass and lovely veggies. Also a big run always makes them happy.

Parsley Bells from pets at homes and willow balls are always good fun too. :)

thanks, yeh the woman at the pet shop said balls that they can chew or get hay out of will be good, I'm going to clear the shed out and put them outside for a bit today while I'm cleaning the cars ;D

you could also stuff enpty toilet rolls with hay/grass/veggies. i find that gets them working for their food and they seem to find it fun

as others have suggested they love tunnels, tubes, pigloos/hidey holes, also mine love it if you put a huge pile of hay in the cage, as they like to dig and hide under it all.

also as hidey holes you can cut entrances/tunnels into cardboard boxes, or fill a box with hay mine love this too

also paper bags with some hay in can be a good hidey hole and they can chew it too

most of these you can make yourself, you dont need to spend loads on toys to keep them occupied, and they can chew them too :) :)

Tunnels, hidey holes, willow balls, paper bags, screwed up balls of paper and egg boxes stuffed with hay go down well here. O0

Yeah, toys don't seem to bother mine. :o
They just love jumping on top of tunnels, going round them and in them all day.
They love cardboard tubes cut down the middle and stuffed with hay. :)

Same here really. Mine have willow balls which I stuff with timothy hay or dried grass, chubes, cardboard boxes with doors cut out of it, willow sticks and large fiddlesticks which they love sleeping under :)

mine love all their toys most of which are mentioned, but they also love mirrors, they are such posers ;D

Paper bags stuffed with hay, cereal (and other) boxes stuffed with hay, piles of hay, some like a Yellow Pages to perch on, houses made out of upturned boxes is what I give mine (not all together). They seem to like anything that involves a big pile of hay, eating or sleeping :)

yeh iv just made them a well cool lil house out of a shoe box, theres a pet place in town which sells lil toys for guineas for like £1-2 so i might pick some of them up as well ;D

if you dont have a yellow pages do you reckon an argos catalogue would be ok? ;D

Our little guy isn't too interested in toys, like the odd play with his toilet roll as long as it has something yummy in it ;D ;D ;D
But adores his blankets and being able to bury himself under towels etc.... and when out at floor time loves to run around us and then hide somewhere so i always have a sheet and then a towel on top to catch the unwanter pee's ::) but a must for him is cover so i've pinched some bits of foam and made like a bridge that he hides under ::) but he loves it :smitten:
Paper bags are hilarious for them they walk in and the bag crinkles and they popcorn and go WHAT WAS THAT? ;D ;D ;D ;D
