Newbie with a sad story

Hi Guys,
I thought I would come on here as i'm in need of cheering up!
After a few years of not having piggies I decided to look out for a pair of guinea pigs to add to our family. Unfortunatley I couldn't find any close to home and ended up falling head over heels with a tiny BEW girlie that was in Pets at home. I would normally never purchase any kind of l animal from there but I really could'nt resist and she was getting picked on by the larger pig she was being kept with. The plan was to try and find another similar aged pig for her to live with.
So on Monday night we brought her home and tucked her up in bed to settle in. When I checked on her on Tues morning she was very quiet and hunched up she also had an awfull messy bottom. So I cleaned her up and put it down to her having gone through allot with the journey etc. Come lunch time she wasnt any better so I called pets at home to say I was worried. They said it was prob the stress of being rehomed but if I was worried I could take her back and they would take her to the vets. So we took her straight back and they took her to the vets in the evening, she called to say she had been put on a course of medication that would last for three days, she had to stay with them untill all medication was finished. That was last night. This morning I had a call from them to say she has passed away, I know I only had her for less than 24 hours but she was a very special little pig and to be honest I'm totally gutted.
RIP little flower you are dearly missed.

sorry for your loss, these furbabies make you fall in love with them the 1st minute you set eyes on them.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Pets at home have offered me another guinea pig but I dont think I want one from there just incase it was something that she picked up from being there. I think I will keep my eyes peeld for some rescues that are close to home. I have a lovely hutch and run waiting!

So sorry to hear you've had such a bad experience. It must have been really upsetting. Unfortunately, its not an uncommon story from P@H.
I would definitely try and find a rescue in the future O0 Lots of them are also happy to arrange "piggy trains" if you aren't too local.

Any rescue guineas would love it at yours

Where abouts are you?
 
have you had a look at the guineapigrehome.org.uk website?

It lists all guineas that need rehoming and also all the rescues around the UK.
 
I Have noticed there are some ickle boys in the rehoming section that are just down the road from me! I have posted on the thread so am refreshing the page every few mins waiting for a reply!

So sorry you lost your new pig :( I lost one after 24 hours and I was totally devestated :( RIP piggie
 
Yep thats the little guys!
I must say I'm really glad that she died having a name not just being a number, I didnt have her long but the love se had in that day was probably more than some poor pigs have had in their lifetimes.

absolutely true, that's a good way to look at it. I get so worried about the poor wee things in P@H, if only I could rescue them all :'(
 
Just to let you all know that even though I couldnt help Flower Iv'e been lucky enough to offer a home to HonkeyMummy's little ones. I'll post some piccies as soon as they have settled in.

I have told the piggies they are coming to a loving new home tonight and I am very sure they are happy and will be very happy with you.
