Hey all! I have 3 sows. After my first two had a huge falling out, I adopted a 3rd to be a companion for one of them. I introduced them and things seemed to be going ok, save for some squabbling here and there, but after a week of living together they got into a fight and one of them got bit and has a mark on her butt. Things seemed to calm down after I moved them to a different room, but two days later she's missing some fur on the other side of her butt. She also squeaks or walks away whenever the other pig approaches her from behind.
Should I separate them permanently? Leave them to work out their problems? Reintroduce later? Thank you!

I’m sorry to hear this.

Could you please give us some more background.

How old are they?
What are the measurements of their cage?
Do you have multiple of everything in the cage?
Do all hides have two exits?

Squeaking can be submission which is the correct response so is not of concern.

However biting enough to leave a mark and pulling out hair is the equivalent of a full on fight with boars. If that occurs then it usually means a failed bond and separation is needed.
Unfortunately, Once a bond has failed, it has failed for life with no possibility of trying again. Sows don’t change their minds about each other

One is almost two years and the other probably 4+ years. Older pig was the one who got bit.

The cage they were living in was a Midwest cage, 47 inches by 24 inches. After their first fight I moved them to a cage that is 48 inches by 47 inches.

They have two of everything in the cage, and each hide has multiple exits.

I was really hoping they would get along, I dont want my pigs to be lonely 😭

While a bigger cage is better, moving them to a bigger cage is new territory which means they essentially have to reestablish in that new space. However a bigger space wont make them get on if they don’t have character compatibility.

If their bond is not working, then they can live side by side. This means they will not be lonely. Side by side still allows for interaction and companionship but without the pressures of sharing territory.
