We adopted a gorgeous 3 week old piggy last weekend as a companion for our older boar who had lost his friend. Unfortunately we are off to the vets today as I strongly suspect he has ringworm.

If it is confirmed do I need to separate them?

Also until I can get F10 or vikron what disinfectants are suitable. I have a steam cleaner, anigene and conficlean at home.

I'm aware this is highly contagious and they need to handled carefully.

when ches had ringworm, we didn't separate him and mollie as the vet said she would have already been in contact with it by that time, and separating them would have caused additional stress. ches was on treatment for four weeks, and thankfully maisie didn't catch it (must have had a strong immune system!), but i did catch it from him so ended up on treatment too!

i seem to remember using the conficlean but the ones you mentioned getting would probably be better. i cleaned the cage daily i think and was advised to throw away any wooden items as these hold the spores for a long time, and to wash any fleece type bedding on at least 60.

They are in a wooden hutch. I can move them into a plastic cage but the one I have is only about 4ft whereas their hutch is 8ft.

Yes, this is no-ones fault, just one of those things.

I understand where you are coming from. My boar recently developed a skin problem and he had been in boarding the week before. The vet warned me it could be ringworm. I was very concerned as he had been boarding in a well reputed place. Fortunately, it turned out not to be so. However, I let the boarding place know I had a case of suspected ringworm - just in case.

If you suspect ringworm - it might be a good idea to let the rescue know.

my post should have said ches and maisie! not mollie. that's what happens when you use similar names :))

We've been treating with topically with Surolan as it was the only thing they had in stock at the time and we wanted to try an minimise spread as much as possible. Its clearing up nicely but another tiny patch has occurred so they are ordering in some other meds to treat him as a whole.

Vet said the Anigene was fine for disinfection of the cage etc. But I've been steam cleaning aswell.
