Newspaper bedding

I was advised to use newspaper as bedding for my piggies due to respiratory issues but when I’ve done so I find they munch on it.
It is easier to clean their cage with this but at the same time i was worried it can harm them so I removed it. Does anyone have any ideas on this please

The alternative bedding, provided your piggies live indoors, is fleece. Provided a non bio detergent is used, fleece won’t cause respiratory issues

Hi i only use newspaper, no hay on top of it because I thought as they use their toilet they will get confused and start pooping everywhere if I did that. And I then throw away daily when spot cleaning.
I’ve researched a little on the megazorb and it seems the reviews for it say it has dust.
Is it like wood chip?

They will poop and pee everywhere no matter what you do! That's life with piggies I'm afraid.
Eating small amounts shouldn't harm then, but if they are chewing on it a lot I would be more worried about why.
Personally I wouldn't use it without covering it with lots of hay so they choose to eat that instead.

Id definitely cover it with hay. Being amongst lots and big piles of hay is enrichment and fun as well as food.
It would also help to stop them from eating the paper.

Megazorb is paper based. If I’ve remembered correctly it’s a bi product from the paper making industry. I dont personally find it dusty. When it’s in the cage, it compacts nicely and is so easy to spot clean and remove wet areas. I throw loads of hay on top of it

I use shallow plastic growbag trays with newspaper and hay on top. I also give them a large wooden magazine rack full of hay.

The rest of their cage has fleece liners with an absorbent layer, zorb being my favourite.

We also use newspaper in our hay area…… always covered in masses of hay, the boys occasionally have an investigative nibble.
