Hey. Two days ago I noticed that my Ninja's penis area was looking a little strange but thought I was just imagining things. Then yesterday night when I was holding him I noticed he had a big lump on his penis area/just above it where the shaft is hidden. It kinda looks like an abscess or a fatty lump. It's quite hard and formed in just two days so I'm worried it'll get even bigger.

I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow but I'm wondering what could it be? It's the size of a smallish-medium strawberry probably. He's acting very normal (eating, drinking, pooing, running around, begging for food and popcorning) so it doesn't seem to be bothering him and he's not licking himself down there or trying to touch it or anything. But isn't the location a little strange for an abscess or fatty lump? I hope it doesn't burst while I wait for the vet appointment. If it does I should put some Betadine (local antiseptic liquid) on it while I wait, right? I can't get his penis out to check for debris because the area is so swollen. He has a cauliflower willy if that means something.

Anyone have experience on suddenly growing lumps or penis area lumps?

Hi! Good that you have him booked in.

Hopefully it is just a harmless fatty lump (lipoma), which are not at all uncommon; especially in boars and especially on the undercarriage. Some boars with a genetic disposition can develop quite a number of them. they tend to come up quite quickly to quite a size but do not need removal unless they are in an area where they impede free movement of limbs. Because they are solid fatty tissue, they do not burst. However, only your vet will be able to tell what exactly the lump is.

PS: Here is a picture of three fatty lumps coming up very quickly in a boar I was boarding for a local friend during building work in her home in 2015.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I hope it's a lipoma then! Doesn't sound too bad compared to abscesses. When the vet tests the lumps with a needle do you know if getting the results is instant or does it take days to analyze it? When I had my Kili he had a cyst or something (full of white/gray stuff) they were able to tell what it was instantly so I hope it'll be the same this time.

It depends on the nature of the lump whether an aspiration is necessary and whether it needs to be sent to a lab for testing. The first step is always to feel the lump, how it sits in the skin and what its texture is and then take any necessary further investigations from there.

His penis leaks leaks a thick bloody substance now.

It seems to me that it's an abscess but I can't be sure. The substance looks quite same that Kili was leaking when he had a lump on his leg. I'm trying to see if he pees now.

My friends guinea pig was rushed to vets a week ago, after developing a lump around the same area. She couldn't extrude the penis at all and was worried her guinea pig might have another urethral stone, as he needed surgery, a year ago, to remove a stone. As he's 7 years old, she was fully expecting to have to let him go, but it was a huge build up of semen, that had dried in and around the penis, which is why she couldn't get it to come out. Once it was all cleaned, he's made a good recovery.

I think you need to get your piggy seen by a vet asap. Please check if he's able to pee, as if not, it is a medical emergency.

We washed Ninja's penis (managed to get it out after a while) just now and found a bunch of hair (and probably sperm) around his penis which we took out. Could that be the reason for the swollen penis area?

His penis got a bit better overnight after we removed the hair-ring and some "pus" came out as well. I visited the vet today and she and another vet thought it was some kind of trauma in his privates such as a bite (could be that Ninja dominated Nano's face and Nano bit him or something but I've never seen them fight). Or maybe he bit himself accidentally while cleaning his penis? Anyway, I got antibiotics 2x a day for a week and pain medication 1x day for 5 days. I hope they don't make him lose his appetite because that would be a nightmare, force feeding a guinea pig again so soon. I just lost Momo after force feeding him for weeks. Everyone at the vet station called him beautiful (+ cute curls) and a trainee wanted to see him so badly she came to meet him in the middle of her lunch break! And he was such a good, brave boy too.

Hi, is there any update on this as my piggy has a similar lump and will be going to the vets soon
