Hello.
I was wonderwing if it could be bad for piggies not to eat hay for a full day ? I've ran out of hay yesterday evening and stores are closed on Sunday where I live. So my piggies won't have hay today, but I'm going to buy some first thing tomorrow morning. I've fed them their veggies and gave them a big bowl of pellets (which they don't get usually).
Thanks in advance for your answers.

I’m no expert, but I’d say they need a constant supply of hay to keep their digestive systems going. If I were you I’d travel further and get some hay today. They “might” be okay, but it’s not good for them not to have hay. If hay is difficult for you to get hold of then maybe it’s a good idea to always keep a back-up supply? (I always have a spare bag in my garage).
Good luck!

When I said "where I live" I meant in my country... It was bad management on my part, I ordered a big bale but I missed the postman yesterday and can't pick it up until Monday. I can find grass but isn't there a risk it might be polluted as I live in a city ?

Oh I see. What a nightmare! I’m not sure about pollution - but you could wash the grass maybe?

Do you have a local supermarket like we have tesco expresses ?they sell really cheap low quality hay, but its ok for a last resort. Or go on buy and sell site and look for locals selling open bags maybe

Well, I just walked 1hour in freezing cold wind to grab a bit of grass and some hay that was left at my mom’s house. There’s really nothing I wouldn’t do for these piggies !
Thanks for your answers.
Oh goodness well done you. We really are just guinea pig slaves aren’t we? The grass was a really good idea!
Now get under a blanket yourself and have a well deserved coffee.

The op is from France, there are no shops opened there at all on a Sunday.

Unlimited hay makes over 80% of what a guinea pig is eating in a day. You can feed more pellets and veg today, but it is not ideal and they are both soft foods (yes, pellets, too, as they go soft when moistened by saliva!) that do not grind down the crucial back teeth that keep the front teeth self-sharpening. Too much pellets and veg are also not good for the guts.
Please give plenty of hay tomorrow. Get hay as quickly as possible and make sure that you never run out again. ;)

No problem. My sister used to live in France that's the only reason I know everything is shut on a Sunday. She found it hard as we r used to having shops open 7 days a week.

That would feel weird now. I remember it being like that over here in the mid 90's

Some parts of rural Wales are like that, no shops on a sunday and some dont even take card payments just cash! Not as bad a Georgia state in the USA though where its illegal to buy any alcohol on a sunday even though the supermarkets are open... you can buy guns, just no wine...

Crazy but at least on a Sunday you know the person behind the trigger isn’t drunk!
