No Hay?

What should I do if I do not have anymore hay left. Its Saturday here today and the hay I ordered is delayed. It is going to arrive by Thursday. My guinea pig has finished her hay now. What can I do for the next few days? Also my piggy has a tray cage. There is some old hay there but it is mixed with her poo and is dirty except from the corners. So I do not know what to do now.....
 
One more thing I'll like to add is that I do have grass and maybe I can feed her high Fibre veggies and fruits? Can anyone help me out?
 
Is there anywhere else you can buy hay from before your delivery arrives?
Being without hay isn’t really an option given it’s their main food source. 80% of what they eat in a day needs to be hay. Without it, she cannot eat enough.
If you definitely cannot get any hay, then all you can do is provide veg, pellets but jointly they only make 20% of the food intake . Veg and pellets cannot replace hay.
Fresh , dog pee free grass is fine but has she had it before? Her tummy needs to be used to it and if she hasn’t had a lot of it before, then you need to be careful for it to not cause tummy upsets.
Fruit shouldn’t be fed as anything other than a very occasional treat and only in very small quantities
 
Hi, if there is a shop near by that you can buy a small bag of hay from to get you by then probably do that...ive had this happen before and we managed to get a small bag to last us...however if you can't then maybe try adding a bit of grass in...and think about maybe switching to ordering more frequently with smaller amounts or just to stock pile a bit...
 
Hi, this has happened to me also. I just gave my piggy a huge pile of grass (which he is very used to grass) to replace hay. Since all hay is is dried grass. This got him through the couple days I could not provide hay. And the next time I had the opportunity to buy hay, I stock piled. So that I always have at least 1extra package of hay available in storage. I hope this helps. :)

Hello and thanks for your help🙏! Yes, she has had grass before and seeing no option, I have fed her with grass. She is eating it happily but of course hay is the best for her

Thankyou so much! Yes I will make sure the next time she has her hay delivered early. It was supposed to come earlier so that she can switch to the new hay as soon as her older one is finished but sadly it got delayed....
 
Grass is not a substitute for grass - in fact, unless your piggies are used to it, it can really upset their guts. They still need hay even when grass is available. Id either get out to the shop or at least order an amazon next day delivery today.
