I have run out of grass. I even tried watering the lawn but my boys have so decimated it that it made no difference.

I need another readily available source of grass. Can I feed my piggies grass from the park if I wash it first?

Just be careful where it is taken from as our local authority just came round and sprayed all our grassy borders today with what I can only assume is weedkiller. Maybe try growing some in pots or ask neighbours or friends?

They ate the contents of the two pots too! Friends and neighbours are not practical for a daily supply. We live in a town house and most of the nearby gardens are very small and paved. I guess my poor boys will have to stick to hay.

Or if there is a local park use grass that is not next to the main pathways?

I have totally run out of grass too, I bought some grass seeds and am growing it in trays, although these don't last very long either! :)) the seeds from Planet Guinea (the website is closed for a re-furb) are really good and they grow quick in about 7-10 days.

I collect grass for my two when out walking in the local woods. However I'm careful to only take stuff that's off the beaten track in the hope of avoiding any dog pee. I'm also lucky that I have fields out at the rescue kennels that are used for horses, no spray etc used on them and well away from the road. The guineas love their grass!

Bex, it isn't essential, a lot of people don't have gardens. They can have hay instead. They just love grass and it's good for them, free and yummy. :)

I personally wouldn't pick grass from the park, only from somewhere in the middle of the countryside or something, even then I'd be scared and have never done it. In a park there's a good chance it was sprayed or a dog pooped there and it was scooped up.

I have lots of places to pick grass, but then we don't have as much park and private land as you do in the UK... Park grass isn't sprayed with weed killer here either. I say washed grass should be fine. A lot of conventially grown veggies we buy are sprayed like you wouldn't believe. Bell peppers, grapes and apples are among the worst, and most people eat those (and feed to their pigs) after washing...
