Sasra
Junior Guinea Pig
I sadly lost my beautiful Squeaky last week. I got home from work and it was clear that very little had been eaten or drunk during the day, about half what was usually gone in both water and food, which my sweet little Flossie could account for!
I noticed that Squeaky was moving ever so slowly, with her eyes half shut and then, when I went to pick her up, even her fur felt cold. I rushed her up to the vets but they said her heart was slowing and it was time to say goodbye, and they helped her cross the rainbow bridge. She was 7.
Flossie didn't take well to being alone, and by the weekend it was clear I needed to either get her a new mate (a delicate and sometimes drawn out process) or find a rehoming centre for her. I am away one or two nights a week for work at the moment, so it seemed best to opt for the latter. I found a lovely rescue centre, who have lots of piggies, and she formed an almost instant bond with one of their older lady-piggies. The two have now been sharing a hutch without a problem for 3 days. (Under close supervision).
I really miss my piggies though. I have done what is best for them, but seeing the empty cage is still bringing me to tears several times a day. I want to go and get Flossie back, and bring her new mate with her. Do you think that would be an appropriate thing to do, after sending her away. I know the rescue centre advocate rehoming, but can you readopt after giving a piggy away?
