I brought my boys home yesterday and have been watching their water levels like a hawk. It hasn't gone down at all and I'm a bit worried. Should I be?

They might not be used to a bottle? The ones in my "pet shop" near us have bowls. Try giving a bit of fresh veg and wash and leave wet, they will be ok I am sure..xx

The pet shop we got them from had a bottle in the cage with them. They have had a few veggies, but not much as they were too scared to eat in front of us yesterday

Dont worry too much. I have piggies who hardly drink at all. Some rarely drink. Just make sure veg is in reach, maybe give them a bowl, and leave them be for a while. A new home is a scary place for piggies, so they will take a few weeks to settle in better and maybe start using the bottle more, as they start feeling more safe in their new home.

Hi. I would do what suem suggested and wash all their veg really well. This will give them some fluid. You could also give them a little cucumber and honeydew melon (not loads as this could upset their tummies) as these contain lots of water. Dont worry too much as my too old girlies hardly ever drink as they seem to get most of their water in their veggies.

Hope that this helps.

xx

I expect they just need to feel a bit more confident about their surroundings. Our new little pig didn't appear to drink at all at first, but she was fine. I gave her cucumber and washed veg to be sure she was getting fluid!

When i first brought my piggies home they hardly drank as there bottle was on an upper level and they didn't feel very safe going up there.
Also when my fosters went to there new home they didn't drink much for the first day or so.
Don't worry to much just give them a few slices of cucumber in with there veggies to give them some fluid, and just give them space and time to get used to there new surroundings it's very scary for baby piggies !

If you are really worried you could put a little ramekin type bowl in their hidey with some water? As long as you change it every time it gets dirty it might make you feel happier that they are drinking something :-)

Just a thought as I'm not an expert :) would it be good to cover part of the cage up with a blanket? Possibly including the drinking area? THis might give them confidence to come out and will make them feel safe?

Thanks everyone :) Panic over, they just seemed to need showing where it is. They're drinking and eating well :D

I wouldn't worry much, when i got my boys home i never noticed their water levels go down, but i saw them having a bit of a drink. They didn't start drinking properly for about 4 days. If your worried try giving them a bit of cucumber :)

When my are out on the grass, they never touch the water bottles
