Ever since Peanut's sister died a few weeks ago I've noticed her having very noisy gut noises. She lives in my room and I can hear her stomach from across the room. She's on a low calcium diet at the moment as she struggled with calcium bladder stones recently. I wasn't too worried because she seemed okay, eating drinking and pooping normally but today I was holding her and noticed some of her poops are coming out squished. Should I be worried and book a vets appointment?

Generally when you're worried, it's good to get a vet appt, just to be sure!

I don't recall many of my guineas ever having a noisy tummy, just one did that I can remember, and it was a serious problem, tho I don't remember the diagnosis, which is probably not directly relevant to your guinea anyway.

I hope somebody with more knowledge than me on this health problem is along soon.

In the meantime, do check @Wiebke 's Guides: Wiebke's Guide to Poops

You do need to be able to hear gut noises but not from across the room - a silent gut in a guinea pig is very bad news - but it is always a good idea to have a check carried out if you are worried and something doesn’t seem right .

If she has soft poops then remove all fresh veg from the diet, increase fibre intake (extra hay) and switch to daily weight checks so you can monitor hay intake.

Thank you! I'll have a look at the guides. I'm thinking about booking an appointment just because I've never noticed this before. The change has only come about since her sister died but I'm wondering if I'm just noticing it more because the room is quieter with one less pig. 🤔

I think that's definitely possible, especially when I now read from the experts that you need to hear gut noises otherwise something is wrong.
