I went to feed the guinea-pigs this morning and Marmalade was hunched over at the side of the cage. Her eyes were half shut and she was making a noise that sounded a bit like a pig snort. I brought her in and phoned the vets who said to bring her in at 2.40pm. Marmalade is now in a cat carrier in the kitchen, she's got hay in there. My mum syringe fed her some water and she took it and then we put her back in the pet carrier, and she walked towards the hay (she wasn't walking around earlier) It doesnt look like she's eating it, she's just sitting at the back of the carrier in the hay. She is wet all round her mouth, I'm not sure if this is a problem with her teeth or not because sometimes the water bottle leaks and when she drinks she gets it all over her. She doesn't seem to be interested in her pellets hay or veggies, should I syringe feed her or not? What can I do for her?

She's making really weird noises. Its a weird squeak, but its quite long and it sounds like it goes high-pitched at the end, I think she's in pain and I don't know what to do. This is my fault, I woke up at 6 but went back to sleep, if I'd got up and gone to see them then she might not be this bad. I don't know what to do please help

I woud ask the vet to see her now as an emergency.

Oh Alicia, I'm so sorry. Please don't blame yourself - getting up earlier wouldn't have made any difference, I don't think.

RIP sweet Marmalade, and hugs to you.

I am really sorry to hear this... but this does happen a lot with little animals. They are really good at hiding pain or illness, and sometimes only show it when its too late for us to do anything. Waking up earlier wouldn't have made any difference, it was just her time to go.

Sleep well little one x
