Get it! Not Nice problems, but I have a mice problem!?!
I went into the garage this morning, and when I was going out through the side door, I saw this small mouse (not small enough to get through the bars of the hutch though), I am a little freaked out by this, and now, I really want to get out of the garage when I see the pigs. We heard you can put mouse traps down- which I don't want to do, because I do not want to see disturbing scenes when I find them in the trap! And you can put poisonous pellets down, put then if for some reason one of my piggies come out the cage, I don't want to poison them if they accidentally eat it themselves. So now we're a little concerned of what to do, and we need to eliminate these mouse/mice (not sure of how many) without having any risk to cause harm to the piggies if came out the hutch?

Humane mouse traps? Catch the mice and release them away from your property if you're in the countryside they'll probably easily find a new home that wont necessarily harm other peoples homes, in a town it might be harder to find a spot. A guinea pig should not fit in a trap meant for mice. Apparently mice find peanut butter irresistable.

How about trying a humane mouse trap. You encourage them to go into the trap with food (they love chocolate). When you check the trap and if you find a mouse you can then decide where you want the critter to go. If you don't think you want any contact see if you have someone who would do this for you. You could ensure they are released far away from your garage without worries. But where you see one mouse you are guaranteed to see more!

Thanks, but they would obviously keep coming back.

Not if you release them far enough away :-) the only other real options involve not so nice ways of getting rid, mouse proofing anything outside would be very difficult as they're tiny buggars who can get through tiny gaps, they need to be dealt with as they can carry parasites which you dont want near your piggies x

I will buy these mouse traps straight away, thank you.

Just had my injection, I was very nervous, but I came out fine as a wet daisy! It was raining outside...

:lol!: thought i had misread that bit... went back a few posts just to double check! glad you're ok though :)

:btt: i would definitely recommend humane traps, it may take a while to clear the mice though, you will need quite few going at once.. mice breed like crazy!
Chocolate is definite favorite with mice.
Apparently mice can fit through any hole that you push the end of a pencil through... so rather small!
i had a mouse problem in the girls shed, i keep the food in a metal sweet tin, their hay is kept up off the floor & newspapers/shredded paper is kept in either metal or sealed plastic tubs. Mice like these as bedding too... & as nesting material for keeping their babies warm & cosy! arghh!
i also had a hutch with metal grids on so i got another sheet of mesh with smaller holes & put at the front of the usual mesh, sandwhiching a thin piece of clear perspex between the two layers, the perspex went about 3 or 4inches high and went the whole length of the hutch openings. i had a good clean out of the shed leaving nothing for the mice to climb on to get to the hutch easily or rubbish to hide in.

Good luck on getting shot of the little peskies :box:
They can carry disease & the girls got so stressed with them in their hutch eating their food & pooping all over it. So cutting out the food & comfort zone for the mice, didn't take too long to clear them, without them coming to any harm either. they just upped sticks & went :bronco:

(think you can get humane traps from screwfix or toolstation cheaply or from general DIY shops)
