every time i put my guinea pig in the run they just sit in the igloo and eat grass. if i take the igloo out they just sit there. is this normal or is there a way to get them moving

We used to find this, we used to put ours along an alleyway where they could run up and down. Sometimes we'd take the Pigloos away to make them take some exercise! I think you'll find they have an active hour, then a lazy hour, so if you leave them they'll have a forage and stretch their paws when they feel like it!

Many piggies take time to get used to big open spaces - one of their biggest enemies are bird of prey and that is wired deeply into their system.


Put a beach towel over part or the whole of the run, so they can feel secure. Put out more carboard boxes, tunnels etc. about a foot apart from each other to encourage them to sneak about.

Sexy my boar used to do this when he used to go in his run. I think its because they feel safe inside something, it must be daunting suddenly going outside with all those smells and birds, insects that their not used to. Dont worry I think its normal.
