Hope I'm posting in the right thread- a few weeks ago we lost my favoritite gpig Roger- his brother Paddy went really downhill, stopped eating- we would get him out at night for playtime and all he would want to do is be cuddled-honestly have never seen anything like it in a guinea pig - he would stand in his indoor cage on top of the log house moaning until you stroked him and then rub the side of his face against your hand-just like a cat and then sit on your lap- fref snuggled up in a jumper for hours

Well we got a new baby boar last week 10 weeks old and am not sure how best to introduce them- they are in seperate cages at mo but meet up for a while eveyday. Paddy is really excited and Milo the litttle baby pig seems fine- loves climbing on Paddy's back and stealing the food from his mouth, but is it possible to leave them together for longer? Paddy needs a friend but Milo (baby pig) seems so tiny and fragile- is there an optimum age where it will work? P.S so far have had no rumbling or strutting - just whistles & squeaks plus lots of popcorning from both of them- good sign?

Hi oh i do hope they become the best of mates x)

You might find this really helpful, Julie has really covered the fact about having two of everything and what to be aware of.
To start off with continue having playtime with each other and then let them spend time together in the house (make sure it's been cleaned out thoroughly no piggie smells)
All the best with the intro's
I hope whee get to see pics of Roger and Milo together x)x)

Best do introductions when you have losts of time and make sure that you have thoroughly cleaned and changed the cage (don't forget the walls and hideys!) so that the cage/hutch they are moving into after the intros is as neutral as possible. You may see a flare up of dominance behaviour in the cage/hutch.

Please read the links you have been given.

DO NOT SEPARATE after you have commited until there are bloody bites or massive bullying behaviour like not letting the youngster out of a hidey, eat or sleep. Anything else you have to sit out - it is not something for the fainthearted!
Dominance can go on over several days and fallouts can happen up to two weeks after the initial bonding when the youngster is getting his bearings and turning the table on the older boar. However, these are extremes and hopefully all will go well for you!

thanks

Thank you all for good and helpful advice-will try for full introduction on Sun, thats cage cleaning day for all the tribe and hopefully we can leave the cage out in the sun to air.

They still seem quite happy with each other. When they come out for playtime we put a spare dish on the floor and they share quite happily. Paddy has started to do a little bum swaying but then just gets bored and flops down and lets the baby climb on him:))

We did of having Paddy neutered but couldn't face seeing him so miserable for weeks

Here's hoping Sun goes well

Fingers crossed for you, I have two bondings to do over the next few weeks and am scared silly I will mess it up - let us know how they get one but sounds like they are already getting on great!

Well so far so good- put them in together hopefully for good on Sun-we had quite a lot of bouncing around and a little rumbling from Paddy but then they both settled down, later on Milo the baby was asleep on top of him.

Now Milo runs and hides behind Paddy when he sees a nasty human ( usually bearing grass and/or veggies ) heading towards him lol

Here's hoping it stays this way
