i’m currently typing a document concerning the nutritional benefits & disadvantages to feeding different types of hay. i’d love some more information specifically on oat & bermuda hay (e.g. nutritional content, healthy advantages & disadvantages) i don’t use either of these, so i’m not very familiar to the information on it. i’m also asking for personal experiences using it, & any common misconceptions of using these species of hay. the document i’m creating is to help others become educated on proper diets & to help people in making the right decisions for their pets. thank you the help!

disclaimer: any provided personal experiences or personal opinions WILL NOT be discussed in this document, although i’d be happy to receive them to contribute to my understanding on this topic. as for nutritional information, i’d prefer if any provided information is supported/confirmed by animal nutritionists & actual certified licensed experts (not the people that pretentiously deem themselves as experts), as this is intended, as an informational document, for my personal distribution to people that request advice on this topic. this WILL NOT be uploaded on any platforms such as this forum, google, or any other public sources. i’ll only distribute this document directly to the person in need of advice, & it shall not be posted publicly amongst communities unless i deem necessary.

The 'problem' with hay is that an accurate nutritional analysis is almost impossible, as it will vary greatly from batch to batch.
Hay cut from the exact same field at different times of the year will not have the same nutritional content, so a guaranteed analysis is usually not offered.

If people need information on the best diet to feed their piggies the easiest thing to do would be to refer them to the nutritional guides on this Forum, which cover hay types as well as all other aspects of creating an optimal and balanced diet for guinea pigs.

@Swissgreys thank you, although there’s definitely been some confusion on your part regarding this post. allow me to better explain it in a more elementary manner for you, for clarification. i’m not looking for specific percentages of nutritional content. i’m looking for simple information related to it, including general questions such as is it “is it recommended to feed on a daily basis. & if not, why?”, “does it contain the basic vitamins & minerals that cavies need to survive? if so, elaborate”, & “does it usually contain any harmful ingredients that may cause digestive or gastrointestinal issues?”.

minor misinterpretation, moving on😅 i’m typing a document to provide to people that are not on this forum or are not even aware that this forum exists. & respectfully speaking, i do believe that there are other sources to retrieving information that are not this forum, & i’m contributing to providing more sources to find this information. this forum is nice, although i’m in a vast number of groups. most of the people in one group in particular are not on this forum. i’ve already asked the moderator & a couple of different admins if it’s okay for me to provide a general care guide for cavies to beginners. therefore i’m only looking for basic information. i’d direct them to this forum for valuable information, although it is a group rule that i am not permitted to ‘promote’ other groups. therefore i can not name this group or direct any of the members to this forum. i’m also typing an educational document because i do deem myself moderately experienced in cavy care. i’m trying to keep it as simple as i can so it does not get confused, again🙂 due to oat hay not being commonly used, & the unavailability of bermuda hay in different regions, i’m finding it difficult to retrieve factual information on them. again, only looking for basic information on different hay species😗✌🏻

I find your response to @Swissgreys actually quite rude. I’m not going to enter into debate with you about it. Whether you intended to be rude or not, let me just be clear that it appears rude.

You say you’ve asked permission to post information in other groups. We also have rules and standards. Can you tell me moderator and admin on this forum have you asked for the permission to conduct research that you intend to publish elsewhere? Not me or any other members of staff that I am aware of. And do you intend to ask permission of any posters who respond? And to credit them in your research?

yes ma’am. i do apologize if it’s misconstrued as rude or disrespectful. it does tend to eat away at people susceptible to being offended. rudeness on social platforms should not assumed, due to the absence of tone. there’s no debate about it, as it’s not intended to be interrupted as disrespectful behavior. as for the permission to ‘publish’, i’m not posting this document, nor am i publishing it in any way, on any sites or groups. as i mentioned, it’s for my use, & at my liberty to possibly send to people in need of assistance PRIVATELY. & yes ma’am, i absolutely DO intend on asking for permission in adding their input into my document. & crediting them is a given. although it’s already insinuated in my post that any information given may be used in the document. it’s their choice to provide the information to me, as i already mentioned in the post that it’s INTENDED for the document. this can be interpreted as asking for permission. i’m sure that makes sense, i can put it in a simpler form if need be. i’m not certain that asking for permission from an admin or a moderator is necessary, as it’s not clearly stated in this communities rules & standards. nothing in the rules prevents people from collecting information for personal use, as long as it’s not publicly available. i MAY educate a couple of people in need of advice, that is not going public. that is being neighborly. that’s why this forum is a thing, is it not? my educational document is not going to be published or posted. it’s mainly for me to refer to. i MAY also release information from it if someone needs help. that’s not publishing. it’s essentially the same as looking up a topic on google & giving the information found to someone in need of it. one more thing to note is that on this document, i plan on making a list of sources & references available. i do appreciate the concern, though! & i apologize if my post or comments are improperly explicated as rude. i hope this elucidates the concern.

I find you’ve been rude to people consistently and should think before you press enter. The people responding are volunteering their time to try and help you
