So last night I noticed what looked like a piece of wood in my guinea pigs hay, I wasn’t sure where it came from so I took it out and threw it away. Then this morning I refilled their hay and when I came home I found another (image below) is this normal to have in this type of hay ? I’ve never seen it when I bought it in the past(Oat Hay)

Sometimes when hay is packaged sticks and stuff get in as well, though it should be removed in a sorting process. I recently had this with a batch of meadow hay and I emailed the company. They apologised profusely and sent me a free bale.

Hay often contains different 'non hay' items.
It all depends on when and where it was cut, and it's not unusual to find other plans, sticks, etc in it.
Over the years on the forum people have found everything from pieces of baling twine to a dead frog in their hay!
