Guinea-Tia-Flossie

Remember this topic? http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=3538.0 I had posted about the 2 guineas that were in poor conditions!?!

Well i got a call from Dean yesterday to say he had rushed the male guinea pig to the vets! He told me that he went to give them some grass and food and the male was cold and not moving..when he went to touch him, he tried to run off but bumped into the wall, and then kept bumping into the wall.

So he rang the owners and said "one of your guinea pigs is very ill he needs to go to the vets now" and the owner said "oh well, I'm home at 3pm so i can take him then" dean said " it's only 11am and he need to go right now, i think he's dying" she replied calmly "oh alright then aren't you nice"

At the vets Dean rushed in and shouted that the guinea pig was dying, she receptionist took the guinea immediately and gave him treatment. Dean asked what the future would hold for this guinea pig, and the vets said "I'm afraid this guinea pig might not make it, he's emaciated and dehydrated...a guinea pig doesn't get into this state over night, this is neglect and this poor guinea has had to suffer"

The vets said they would keep him overnight but don't think it will help.

Dean was then rang by the owners who said the vets gave them a telling off and told them their guinea pig is dying. But she didn't seem to care, she just told dean after that that she wasn't going to have another guinea pig if he dies, because they are getting a hamster next week! FOR F*CK SAKE!

I'm not sure if the guinea pig has pulled through or not but i will go up on Monday with dean to see. If the male has dies, then the female is on her own and i will definitely leave a note this time saying i want the female guinea pig! I just hope I'm not too late in trying to save the female too...I'm such a fool for not taking these guinea pigs the first day i saw them :'( :'( :'( :'(

Oh my Lord. It just beggars belief the attitude some people have about their pets. They get guineas and stick them in the garden. they don't see how wonderful they are and they become a nuisance because they have to go out in the cold to feed them etc. It makes my blood boil it really does :tickedoff:

Don't beat yourself up Jeanette. You did all you could have done (that was legal anyway). You had to give them a chance to care for their animals. Now you know they don't really, you can step up the campaign and get those guineas.

Good luck x

Oh my god thats awful :'(

How can people be so cruel?! Youve done your best, fingers and toes crossed for the poor little thing xx

I told my mum and she said we are allowed the female and try to put her in with Flossie (female) and Beau (male) Do you think that a trio of 2 females and a male would work?

Oh yes, I've seen it work loads of times. My rodentologist has lots of trios like that.

That is so sad, what horrid people. And wasn't the female pregnant?

Kimmie

I thought so, but she never had any babies! I wonder if i was either wrong and just felt her insides abit bloated up, or they died due to the female being in such poor health and conditions.

Don't beat yourself up about this - they weren't in your long term care. All you can do now is get the other female off of them. Even if you have to lie. Say you have been thinking & your mum has a neutered male & female in a huge enclosure and this female would not be lonely. That is also not a lie! Tell her that your mum is fab with pigs & if she let the female go to her then it would avoid any further vet bills.
Keep us posted on how things go.

Good luck.

That is truly awful I hope she gives them up to you now. Well done to Dean getting the piggie to the vets.

Well i would hope so....

Although the RSPCA have been round there before, because someone complained about their dogs, hence the reason they have us to look after them during the day, but that's a whole other story!

I will do my best to get the female, i'm just sad because when i go back the little boy might not be there :'( I'm so stupid for not dong anything sooner :(

Do not feel bad about it. Its them that own the animals that should feel ashamed of themselves. Lets hope that they give them up to you as they just do not care about them one bit.

Someone complained already!? So I presume they are on file :)

It's not your fault, do not blame yourself hun

If the RSPCA have already been called, albeit on an unrelated matter, can it be reported again, this time with the vet stating his/her opinion on the state of the piggie? Isn't that the only way they can be taken off them by the RSPCA?

Oh love you've done more than your share, if not for you the boy may not have been neutered. Bloody mongrels tho >:( >:( >:(
I'd even pig nap if i could, but if you can get her legally it would be better for you and the piggie :)
I do remember the story and was horrified that time, these people should not have any animals, maybe after you've got the little girl you could report them to the RSPCA and tell them what horrific conditions they've living in.
Good luck and we all think your fabulous O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

aaw thanks Glynis :) I will keep everyone updated, i'm going tomorrow so i'll let you know if the boy is still alive or not! The owner hasn't rang us to tell us anything. :( I don't know what the vet has done about it...but they use the same vets as me, and the girls who work there are pretty fiesty and wouldn't let this go easily O0 now i'm just hoping the female isn't feeling too lonely (if the other has died) and that they give the guineas to me

Aww bless at least Dean has managed to do something about it now :(
**sends healing vibes for the poor guinea's**

having had quite a few rescues i am not easily shocked by the state people let their animals get into! but it really does make my blood boil when you think people like the ones on this forum who will happily give up sleep to feed poorly animals during the day and night and dont even bat an eyelid at the thought of doing it, then you get some sick who just dont give a cr*p about them :tickedoff: 666)

Aw I remember this story - I hope the poor little boar pulls through. Don't you feel bad - you agonised for ages about what to do and you couldn't really have done anything without getting your boyfriend into trouble. I hope you get the female, and I hope the vets report these awful people to the RSPCA. Poor piggies - to be honest I am surprised they are still alive .. :tickedoff:

I'm so so sorry to hear about this. It was inevitable really. I know that you really struggled as to how to deal with this and now it has come to a head.
Please dont beat yourself up about not responding sooner - we all know what you went through and you did what you thought was right

Hopefully the little girl can come and live with you and put the horrible memories of neglect behind her
I'm hoping against hope for a happy ending for the boy but if its not to be then he is going to a better place

I'm crying as I'm writing this - that "person" should be shot for the misery that he/she has inflicted on such defenceless animals. Better still, locked up in a tiny cage with nothing to eat or sleep on until they understand how it feels. I'm so ANGRY towards them

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I feel just like this too! I tried to put it out of my mind so i could sleep last night, but it didn't really work, knowing that the girl could be lonely and cold wondering where her mate had gone!

It is the hardest situation for me to deal with, thinking..should i steal them (thats illegal) should i call the RSPCA (they would know it was me and dean would lose his very highly paid job from them) Should i ask for them (maybe they will say no mind your own business and again dean will lose his job).

The only thing i could do was visit as often as i could, to feed them clean them. Dean took vegies and grass down everyday, which helped a bit! and i also found a green house so i put them i there for a run while i was there. You should have seen them both jumping and popcorning...like they hadn't been out in years!

Like i have said, tomorrow is the day i find out what has happened! If he has died i will be so mad at them for letting him stay in that state and not notice  :tickedoff:
Dean also told me that when he was on the phone telling them that thier guinea pig was dieing the women said " are you sure as the girls chucked food in this morning and never said anything"
:-\ :'( :tickedoff: :( :o

I remember the thread well and its one that my son asks after. I hope things so well for the little lads - sending vibes for him. Keep us posted. I hope you manage to get the girl - go kick some ass!

Just take a deep breath & ask the woman if you can take the guinea pig on. If she says no then you can call the RSPCA. She might suspect it is you - but if the vet is as you say it would be possible it could have been them. I would just take the plunge & ask her today so you are not worrying about the poor little mites anymore.
I am in Nottingham and will more than willingly help you with anything such as fostering etc. I have Wiggy & Rusty going to a new home so will have time & space for any help you need. I don't mind coming with you - tomorrow my daughter is at nursery all day - so if you do want any help PM me. I don't mind doing the talking either. I can be very diplomatic & am happy to negotiate with the woman - even if it means saying things that I don't necessarily agree with. But if it gets the pig out I'll do it.

You've got support here GTF

Yes - I think the priority now has to be getting the remaining pig out of there. Its true that the RSPCA could have been called by the vets. I think the opportunity is there to take her without too much fuss from the other side.

Hils you are a stronger woman than me. I would really struggle to stop myself giving this "person" a very hard, very dry slap. I would end up in court.

Good luck all today and please let us know the outcome

Poor piggies, it's so sad to hear that one of them has lost their life because of this uncaring :tickedoff:

Fingers crossed you can at least help the little lady left....

I'm hoping she'll be only to glad to be shot of her to make way for the new hamster >:(

Sadly when i went round today, she had left a note to say the male had died during the night at the vets! :'( :( :'(

I have left a note asking for the female (in a nice way) so i hope she says yes!

Oh no :( I'm sorry. Try not to feel too bad Jeanette, you really were stuck with what you could do about the situation, and did the best you could in the circumstances :-*

Fingers crossed you get the girl. x x x

really is so sad some 'people ' cant care a toss about anything but them self, couldnt you say the 'female ' had 'died' when you go next time ? ^-^ like there gonna be bothered :tickedoff: & give her that fab home she deserves :smitten:

Well in my view at least the male piggie has got shot of the place and has gone to a better place. But it is still sad that the owner let him die. at times like this i think that capital puishment should still be around just so they can put the owner in a room and subject he/she to the cruelty that she subjected the poor piggy too.
RIP Male Piggie
