Skittles as some of you know was not doing well after his teeth were filed down. After a month of syringe feeding and round the clock care he had shown no sign of improvement. Last week I took him to Glen who discovered that he had developed an abscess on his jaw and it was pushing his jaw away from the rest of his mouth. Glen told me the best thing to do would be put him to sleep which of course was horrible and filled with :0

About two weeks before that I told my boyfriend that I wanted to get Skittles a friend. I didn't tell him I was interested in getting one from a rescue and wanted to wait until he was better, and he got me another Guinea Pig from a pet store. Guinness is about 3 months old and he and Skittles bonded right away. They spend a lot of time snuggling together and following each other around.

Obviously I needed to get Guinness a friend after Skittles passed and the vets put me in touch with a local Guinea Pig rescue. I went there a couple days ago with Guinness and after trying two different boars who Guinness did not like at all, he met Petey who is 14 months old. They bickered for a little bit but started to get along. I brought him home and have re-named him Hamish. He and Guinness get along wonderfully most of the time, though there are moments where I still need to separate them.

Here are the boys

I'm so sorry to hear about Skittles, but I'm glad you feel able to keep caring for these little guys. Good slaves are always needed :D, your boys are both gorgeous.

Nice to see you on the forum, I'm sorry the outcome wasn't better for skittles but what I'm sure of is he couldn't have had better care!

Rip Skittles. X

Thanks Jo, it was a really difficult choice to but Skittles down but when Glen said he would put him down if Skittles was his pet I knew what choice I had to make.

I'm hoping to be on the forum more now that uni is almost over and I am not so stressed out and busy.

Hamish enjoys waking me up between 730 and 8 each morning and has started getting Guinness to join him in yelling at me to wake up and pay attention to them.

In all honesty when Glen says PTS you know there's no hope, he doesn't surgest PTS readily.

It still doesn't make it any easier I know but I'm glad you have the two boys now and I hope they stay healthy for at least 5 years you deserve a break :)! X

I'm taking them both to Glen on the 1st to make sure everything is good to go and because that is when the rescue will be there and I want her to see Hamish again. Hamish should be perfect as he was well cared for and has had vet check ups in the past. Guinness should also be but has not been to the vets yet.

Did you know they have raised the taxi price to £9.00 from the station to the vets?

How sad you lost Skittles.

Your boys are gorgeous and it is lovely to see them get on so well.

Eeek - no just typical, wait till you hear this I haven't been! :)).

I should be going on the 1st to, give Carol some support hey technically it will be a guinea pig meet up muhahaha!

Hopefully I'll driving by then and can give us both a lift - fingers firmly crossed!

Sorry for your loss. RIP Skittles xx
Congratulations on your new addition.
Hamish is a very handsome boy!
Hope the bonding keeps going well and the squabbles get less and less. :)
