Omg Fungal Infection Suspected

It's always at the most inopportune moments, I picked up Daisy today and felt something under her chin and she has a red scabby patch about the size of a 2p which looking on here looks like fungal. The indoor cage is out and shes quarantined (none of the others have any scabs or bald patches so far). There was absolutely nothing there on her health check last Sunday so its come up very quick.

I already have F10 so wooden logs have been soaking in a boiling hot F10 solution for about 30 mins and are now drying out, they will be sprayed with a solution as well before the piggies go anywhere near them. I have a whole hutch to scrub and thoroughly disinfect but it needs to wait until tomorrow as I'm supposed to be going Northampton in about 30 mins for the night though we will be heading back first thing now.

I have a vets appointment booked for 8am Tuesday morning as my work commitments for Monday mean I can't get her there at all and they could only offer after 2:30pm today. I have ordered more F10 disinfectant from amazon to make sure I have enough, I take it the imaverol dip is prescription only as I can't find it online.

I've read all the advice on handling Daisy last, making sure I follow high hygiene rules. Whats the best course for intrafungol and imaverol, is there a certain number of days between dips to make sure its treated asap?

I'm really stressed now, I go on holiday on the 1st June and Daisy is likely to be on her own until we get back. My mum will come up and look after them but she isn't experienced in medicating them and I am so worried about her not being well in time and expecting my mum to do it. It doesn't help that I'm really stressed with work at the minute (brought to tears 3 times this week alone) but I can't do anything more about that (already looking for alternative work)

This is not your fault and you are taking all the right and preventative steps.

I've not used imaverol dips. When I've had oral fungal medication it's been used on it's own and it works very quickly. But it is usually a 2 week or more course. But is really is the best treatment. It doesn't taste bad as Mabel has never refused it and she's had it a few times. Just stay calm.

Can you post a pic? It's an unusual place to get fungal. Are you sure it's not the remnant of a scab from a bite from a chin off?
 
oh... these issues arrive always in the worst moments...
But 10 days of treatment do a lot... maybe the patch will recover with a proper medication... and if not it will improve for sure before your departure! :nod:

Imaverol can be bought from Imaverol 100ml - Animed Direct Great stuff lasts forever dilutes 50 water to 1 part Imaverol we then dab it on affected area. We always keep some in and start using it first signs so it covers us while waiting for vets

You are doing everything right Kelly and it is in no way your fault, these things just happen. Imaverol dips are fantastic for getting rid of fungal and as long as you stick to the routine of the dips and the F10 cleaning it will soon be gone. Sending healing vibes!

I'm away tonight but will try and get a photo in the morning. It is unusual as its kind of beneath the chin just in front of a leg which means until I picked her up and felt it I had no idea as you couldn't see anything. Poor girl
 
@VickiA It is a very unusual place but looking at photos I still believe that it's fungal, mostly because there isn't any hole from a possible abscess or cyst burst (plus no mess) and there doesn't appear to be any wound at all. I am keeping Daisy separate for now as although she gets a little lonely she does manage fine on her own and I am aware that I need to be on top of all this by the time I go on holiday so I think this is easiest for me and the piggies.

Have to agree with you Kelly - it does look fungal (can see plaques) and no signs of a puncture wound. Can you pop a bit of clotrimazole (canesten fungal cream) on it until you can get her to the vet? It usually helps soothe the itching for them while waiting to see the vet. Hugs to Daisy x

I think that's the same as the boots own brand stuff I had last year for a couple of fungal spots on my stomach so will dig it out and pop some on later if its in date/the right stuff
 
Clotrimazole is the active ingredient in Canesten. Own brand is fine.
 
awesome, just dug it out the medicine cabinet and thats the same active ingredient and its in date. Will do it as soon as I've finished cleansing the hutch and put the other piggies back in. Is it wrong that I went through the best part of 1L of F10 in todays clean... needless to say I've been thorough!
 
you are doing everything possible.It can appear when piggies are stressed,ill or frail.Vet trip will help .I'm sorry you are having this problem before your holidays.:)
 
Tell me about it, to be honest now I think about it I have put Daisy under a lot of stress over the past month. Shes had the bonding with Willow and 2 weeks later Donald. Then 4 weeks later Lily was introduced so it was quite a bit of bonding in a fairly short period. Hopefully I can contain it all to just Daisy and any medication will kick in quick
 
Ok vet was a little unsure. It is still suspected ringworm and this is the likely culprit but the vet said she couldn't rule out a bacterial infection either unless we had full testing done which I don't have time for at the min. I have been given surolan to rub on twice a day which should tackle the problem whether it's fungal or bacterial.

Anyone know if a piggy can get roid rage? Daisy has enough attitude as it is :)) :))
