my heart goes out to this piggy....i have got the lady on msn now trying to peice together what happened.

She should be syringe feeding. The teeth will grow back as they never stop growing. But not sure if the roots were taken out would they grow then?

Sounds horrific and unneccesary. :(

i told her that it will make piggy really ill and will eventualy kill it. i am nearly in tears to how this piggy is being treated

it doesnt sound like they have a clue how to look after guineapigs this piggy is on her own witch is another thing thats upsetting me

and sawdust i have advised her that both are bad for her piggys health and can lead to medical problems so she is taking it on board she doesnt look after the pig her daughter does witch part of if you gonna get a pet the adult is responsible for it! grrrrrr

silly woman if she will hand the piggy over I'm sure someone will want to help?

she wont hand her over as thay have had her from young. but it is making my blood boil and i feel so sorry for piggy

Gracious, some people don't deserve to have piggies. I can only hope "innocent" ignorance is her excuse - while still bad for the poor piggie, at least if she is willing to learn things could be improved.

If the teeth were fully extracted, roots and all, they won't grow back. If the teeth were only broken then they would, but once the root is gone, no more teeth. Tuppy had a lower incisor extracted in April 08, it never grew back as the entire tooth including root was "pulled".

they're not bad persay, but piggies need balanced diets, too much of anything can be bad!

i feed 1 cherry tomato with seeds once per week per pig or without seeds 2-3times but never more than that for one piggy,Boris is the only one who eats them and gets angry if i take the seeds out lol

Tomatoes are perfectly fine to feed, but if that is the only food/veg the pig is being fed...

Good to hear. I don't feed them very often (a few times per week). Any news on the piggie?

this piggy was getting fed them all the time as the main diet thats when the problems start but i have warned the lady that IF the guineapig doesnt get the right balanced diet it wont be getting the nutrition it needs to be healthy and that could lead to health problems and i aslo said she needs to get lots of vit c aswell....veg but unfortuatly i dont think she has taken it on board if that guineapig has lost all her teeth she will not beable to eat pellets witch is a main part of a piggys diet i would presume they would be to hard for her to eat. oh well i did my best x

Pellets aren't the main part of the diet, they're the least important part. Hay's the one the pig needs to be getting lots of. We can only wish that you have at least sparked the womans mind into looking into things a bit more, well done on doing what you could though!

I have a rabbit with no teeth (I had to have them removed with roots), she manages fine, but she can not eat hay, although they need the high fibre, it is impossible to eat without teeth. She has to have her pellets soaked, but as she has adapted to life without teeth, her gums have harden allowing her to be able to eat some harder food.

She can't manage tomatoes though, as she has no grip and they slip out of her mouth, so I would imagine this piggies would have the same trouble.

Hope piggie is ok.

i know hay is 80% of a guineapigs diet i said it in wrong context...this piggy is having hay but it also has straw! and that worried me. your right ccc4 i did try my best only hope for the piggys sake she takes my advice on.
