One Gp Died Now The Others Alone Advice Please

Hello my four and a half year old female gp passed away the other day, she had recovered from an UI , and seemed to be better but then litreally in the space of an hour collapsed and passed away in my arms her mouth was crusted and she was seemed to have hard time breathing, but the day before she had been completley fine no sign of illness watsoever, it was very distressing espeially as she had recovered from one illness and seemed to be on the mend, she went down hill too fast to get to a vets and she passed away been storked and cuddled on her blanky. Whilst I'm still griecving i need advice for my other GP hes now all alone and i dont know if hell be okay by himself ive read its cruel for them to be alone, But i dont want to end up in a never ending cycle here, Hes a rescue piggie and hes in very good health hes around five but we dont know his exact age with him been a rescue , But hes been fairly quiet since my other one passed away. I'm looking for advice from other gp owners and proffesionals please.

I am very sorry for your loss. Sadly, sometimes the effort to get through a major illness can be just that bit too much for an older/frail piggy with another underlying issue. It sounds like her body has simply closed down very quickly and that she thankfully didn't suffer much and for long. She could also pass knowing that she was loved.

Where are you located? Any advice will depend to a large extent on accessibility to a good rescue.

I'm sorry for your loss. I can understand wanting to find your pig a new companion without ending up in the constant cycle of having pigs of different ages (I worry about that myself- right now I have a 4-year-old pig and an almost 6-year-old pig... both are generally healthy but the older pig is definitely showing her age now, and I worry what I'll do when she passes.) With a rescue in your area, maybe you could find your remaining pig a new companion or a similar age so you aren't facing the same situation all over again a couple of years down the line. Again, so sorry for your loss, and I hope you can find a good match!

One of my piggies, Toffee, went from being fine to having to be PTS within 8 hours. He had pneumonia. So I understand how awful it is. They can run free together.
