I’ve had 2 guinea pigs for nearly a year now. One of them is called Alfie.

Alfie’s cagemate is very chatty and always making noises, however Alfie himself seems to never make any noises.

The only time he makes a noise is when I accidentally pull his long hair too hard when brushing him or when he’s rumble-strutting with his mate. He doesn’t seem sad but he doesn’t seem happy either because he never makes any happy noises? I’m not sure why. Is it normal for a guinea pig to be quite reserved and not wanting to make any noises? Do you think he’s just quite shy? He doesn’t like moving around and prefers to sit in his little house in his hutch, he’s done all of this since day 1.

To be clear, just in case, Alfie and his cagemate get along well, hell his cagemate will start squeaking for Alfie when I take Alfie out. I don’t think Alfie is lonely.

Some guinea pigs are just quiet. I've had some that 'chatter' all the time and others that seldom make any noise. I'm sure he's just fine, he's just not very vocal!

I forgot, there’s only this one other noise he makes that I can’t describe...it’s almost like a faint sucking sort of noise. He does it when I’m holding him. That’s the only other sound he makes. Since it’s hard to describe I might have to record him doing it unless you know what I’m on about. Again, all since day 1.

Hello, welcome to the forum, be lovely to see photos of your piggies. Agree with Freela, some piggies are not chatty and never make a noise we had a piggy for 5 years and she only wheeked once
