I recently switched to fleece bedding for my pigs, and I’ve noticed there are whiteish patches on the bedding. The other day when I was cleaning the cage out one of them jumped back in and had a wee when there was no bedding down I saw it was a kinda opaque white/yellow colour. I saw something a while back that said making an adjustment to their diet should sort it out but I can’t remember what it was, any suggestions?

Check it for being gritty. It can sometimes be a sign of excess calcium in the diet. Do you feed high calcium veggies? Be aware that a lot of their calcium can be from pellets and them drinking unfiltered water. Using a water filter and ensuring they aren’t eating too many pellets and high calcium veg is a place to start checking.

Always consult a vet if you have any concerns though

Thank you, I’m pretty conscious of them getting too much calcium so I avoid things like spinach and I give them Harrington’s optimum guinea pig pellets which I’ve checked on the comparison chart on a thread in here and it was on the lower end for the calcium. I’ll start using filtered water from now on though hopefully that makes it clearer. Thank you :)

Filtered water was the game changer for my pigs when I started using this. 👍
