hi all i needed to start a new thread the other was 27 pages long and too complicated,
Basically if you have been keeping up with it you will know Boris is on a coctail of drugs, well I'm very saddened to update that despite using all of this for almost two weeks if I'm correct,Boris has had no improvement other than little bursts of seeming better, well he hasn't even had that for days now,he has just gotten worse, his breathing is very bad,he is shaking but he isnt cold, his eyes are almost closed, his appetite has dropped,he wont even eat his favourite foods, and he cannot move at all now:(,i just don't know what to do? the vet doesnt want me to bring him in due to stress reasons,i am starting to think maybe i have to think about doing the unthinkable just because i feel like he has given it all he has got and i look into his eyes now and there is no spark no will8....From the signs i have described truthfully does anyone think i should continue trying to help him?
i know its a big thing of me to ask but i need to know as i can't work out whether i am pushing him to hard or if there really is a chance,
can anyone help as i feel like maybe I'm hanging onto him when he is already wanting to go I'm just not sure,is there anything else i can do? xxxxx8...8...

It is a very, very tough one to call, I'm so sorry you are having to face this decision. No-one really knows what is right or wrong in such a situation, it is a call of what remains ethical, what is fair on Boris right now. He has had a lot of problems, he's come through a lot of them and he has been so strong...but there is only so long a guinea can stay so very strong for until their problems weigh them down. Bois has been fighting for over 3 months, I'm not surprised he is tired of it all, but I am very concerned that he is showing signs of giving up. The not eating, especially not eating his favourite foods, are always one of the biggest warning signs to me.

If you are quite sure he is considering leaving Bonnie - and you know him best, you know when they have given up - I would consider perhaps stopping all his meds and just giving good doses of pain relief. Give him the chance to go on his own, the pain relief will stop any pain and he'll have the chance to slip away peacefully, he can stop fighting. If it comes to it, could Chris come to your home to have him PTS?

Sending lots of love and hugs your way, thinking of you all. xx

Sorry to hear this Bonnie, after all you've both been through. All you can do is keep him comfortable and then make an informed decision once Chris is there. I'm sorry. Sending hugs and thinking of you

So sorry

Thinking of you Bonnie, and Boris.

Sending love and hugs from Wales. x

Oh what a tough time you are having.

I think you are doing the right thing though. I would do exactly what you're doing... make him comfortable for now and if this is his time to go, then it's his time to go.

Maybe put a handful of grass next to him... I've done that before... not that he will eat it, but it's just nice that he'll be able to smell something nice and fresh.

Thinking of you,

Charlotte x

I'm glad you have started a new thread Bonnie the large one was difficult to follow.

Personalyl I feel you've done all you can, it can't be good for any animal to be on medication for too long unless they have to and do have a quality of life. I know at this point the decision I would take but it is your call, you know Boris best.

Wahatever you decide I will support. As others have said just make him comfortable.

(((hugs)))

Louise

OK sweetie, just keep talking to him he knows your voice xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
offer him some slushy like i said if he'll take it good, if not let him be, keep him warm but if he doesn't like the hot water bottle or the little towel over him, just do the towel over his cage.
What a true little aussie battler this guy is xoxo

remember whatelse i said 24/7 and Allan knows and he's ready for me to jump up whenever i don't mind xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

well I'm back, thankyou for all the nice well wishes and so much support for Boris,he is still going, its like he is just hanging on to whateve he can,i have placed grass next to him, thankyou for that tip charlotte,i have put the towel over his cage as he didnt like it near him,he won't take any slushy:( i have done all i can think ok ive just been popping in and talking to him although he doesnt seem very responsive right now.
My mum has been on the phone to a rodentologist from melbourne that knows your vet Glynis, her name is sasha and she is going to give us a call back to see if anything will help but at this point i think we are just exausting our options,
mum came over and put something on his feet called Miracle mineral supplement, she said its safe to use on animals, its just the last thing she could think of,
I'm not sure whats doing this to him maybe the bumble foot? he is having sporanox so it shouldnt be anything to do with the internal fungal infection x

I'm welling up reading this whatever you decide its going to be tough ive been following your thread and what a little fighter your handsome boris is sending my love and wheeks from my lot .

I can't tell you how sorry I am for you and Boris. You have both tried your very best! I know you wouldnt consider this unless things were VERY desperate. We'd all been so hoping that Boris could make it!

I have had to face a similar situation myself, and I know how hard it is. I am with CCC4 - if there is a possibility that Boris can go on his own without pain, please do! It will be easier on the the two of you!

BIG HUG
Wiebke

Yes Bonnie will do sweetie....................
if anyone can help can you pls do so.......
i have Bonnie's phone number........
i'm going to be signed in but disappear just for a bit, my girls need a cuddle .........

oh Bonnie, I'm so sad to hear this.
I know how difficult a decision it is, having just gone through it myself with Naz. My vet told me there wasnt any more avenues to explore, and that it would be better, so i felt it wasnt really my decision.
Hope Chris can offer you something, or at least tell you what is best for Boris,
Sending loads of love to you both and hope if its his time, it will be peaceful.
I dont know what to say, was really hoping Boris was going to pull through again :( 8...
If you need me you know where i am xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

bonnie,i'm so sorry. i think you know deep down what the right answer for you two is, i don't feel as though i could say either way. i was trying to think what i'd do if it was one of mine, but i know the answer would differ with each pig as they're such different personalities. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There was a thread some weeks ago with a piggie with recurring bumble foot. she was on baytril - but if you can get zithromax; that should be better!

HI Vicky thanks, Bonnie's at work, we're in OZ so zith would have to be either ordered in or sent to us via UK :(

Debbie the trouble with Boris is he's so weak that Bonnie is sure an aneas would be the worst out come for him..... :(

No a GA would be out of the question but maybe if she could get hold of zithromax then that could help. Just thinking of all possibilities.

Another of Simon's clients has a piggy who has got very bad feet and the zithromax sorted it out really quickly.

I'n sure you can get it because its a human antibiotic. Whether a vet would prescribe it though is totally another matter. I am sure Simon would speak with Bonnie's vet if he called him though.

Although don't forget Simon not there this week.

Yup just been on a few sites and it's here in OZ but for humans SIGH........
might suggest and see if Chris her vet can get it

Debbie is a syrup you use for the piggies?
what is the makeup?
i'm doing some research and found a place to buy tablets only.......

It's a powder. Because it only keeps for five days once its made up, then Simon splits it into three and you then add 3 mls of tap water to each bottle as you need them. You give 1 ml once a day for five days and then 1 ml every other day after that. You can give it for up to six weeks.
