What you need to remember though is its a POM (prescription only medicine) and I guess its the same for you over there, so obviously the vet will need to do a prescription. Although it can't work miracles, it is a wonderful antibiotic and very well tolerated in piggies too.

I think whatever you decide, it will be the best for Boris and I support it.
Its such a hard decition to make as you might remember with me and my Iris. You'll know what to do. Just look at him and listen to your heart.

xxxxx

Just spoken to Bonnie she'll be home soon and come and see what updates you've all suggested xx>>>

I'm sure if her vet Chris can he'll try for her......the whole family and Bonnie will do their best i know that!

We all know that, they are so brilliant, and I'm keeping my fingrs crossed that she can get hold of Chris soon!

hi everyone, wow so much to read and so much good info, thankyou for all the well wishes
Chris will prescribe anything i ask for as he lets me basically treat Boris myself hence the reason I'm always asking here,i have called all the vets i can for tonight and nobody can help tonight seeing as most of the good vets are not on.

Boris is fighting like always,i got home and he is on Tony's lap in the lounge munching on his favourite pak choy and corn,he doesn't look good but its a big step in the right direction,i am very proud of my boy i hope he continues to fight until i can get some better meds for him,his breathing is astill a little shallow but not as bad as when i left him, guess he was waiting for his dadrolleyes,we will be staying up all night with him so he doest flip on his side or anything because when that happens he cant flip back over, also if he does pass i want him to have us here xxxxx

BIG CUDDLE FOR BORIS
From all of us - Dizzy, Llewi, Nia, Nerys and me

Sending LOTS of vibes

The concentration (%) affects the dose, not the amount in the bottle (which I think you mean by 5ml or 10ml solution? Sorry if I'm getting confused!), so the dose should still be 0.1ml. If he has not had any other pain meds you can inrease it to 0.2ml (Vedra's advice on Metacam as pain relief), or just give 0.1ml twice a day.
The dose can even go up to 0.3ml but I wouldn't give that dose to a pig as lightweight as Boris unless I knew it would be purely a case of keeping him comfortable for his last days.

I'm pleased to hear he has picked up a little, to know that he is munching on some food is a little relief. It makes it a thousand times harder to make a decision when they keep picking up now and then. The active ingredient in the Zithromax is azithromycin - if that helps any.

there not great as i won't use a flash on him but this is Boris about 5-10 mins ago

OH thinks he has definantly had a stroke at some point,he said Boris has one eye thats more closed than the other and he also looks like he might be blind in the lazy eye xxxxx

Poor baby, bless his heart. It pains me so much to say it, we have all been rooting for him, but he's not looking well. I just want to give him and you a big hug. I hope there is something that can be done to turn things around very quickly. Whatever happens, he is loved by a great many people. xxxxx

both are the same amount of meds just different strengths thats why I'm not sure how much or what one,
thanks for the information it helps alot xxxxx

Ok I see what you mean now, will see what I can find out for you, back in a tick.

ETA: Only info I can see so far is that some Metacam is 5mg/ml while others are 1.5mg/ml. Will keep searching...

Is there anything else on the bottles? Does either have anything about how many mg/ml each one has got?

Still one gorgeous looking boy x)x)x)
Up the meds if needs be love, if that keeps him comfortable then do so........remember our night time is UK day time so you'll have lots of people that can help you if needs be........and i'm only a call away xx>>>
I hope you both get some sleep, give Boris our love and some sweet little mini kisses from the girls xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Bonnie i have a bottle of metacam 10ml mauve box in front of me......

active constituent per ml:
meloxicam 1.5mg

on the box it says 1-3 drop daily, but when Duke was really ill i was told i could give 2 drops twice a day if needed

Just caught up, Bonnie. That is one hell of a fighter you have there, and you're definitely one yourself.

So sorry he's taken a turn. Thinking about your family. Sending *hugs*

Love,
Marie

The dog one is 1.5mg/ml and that dose is 0.1-03ml, so 0.4ml for the cat suspension sounds about right.

I'm really sorry Boris is still having a hard time after already going through so much. As for the question asked in the title of the thread, I don't think I could possibly say as I am not in your shoes, but it sounds like the members on here are coming up with some possible solutions and the ones that cannot help are offering support. People moan about the forum sometimes, but when you read threads like this it reminds me why it is such a good place to be.

Only you can decide what to do about Boris, and it's just the worst decision you have to make regarding our beloved animal friends, but we all feel for you and wish Boris all the best.

xx

Keeping everything possible crossed here for Boris and you!

thanks everyone,Boris is now back in his clean cage again,i used the opportunity of tony holding him to clean it as it usually stresses him,in an hour and 20 mins he managed to chomp down 2 leaves of pak choy,4 rocket leaves,12 kernals of corn, small handful of grass and a small handful of hay,
he is doing so well,i hope he keeps up with this appetite,
I'm glad the dosage of metacam wasnt to high x

Bonnie, like all the other members, I'm very sorry to hear about Boris's news, although I'm glad he's picked up a bit as the day went on. I'm balling out reading the thread, desperately trying to write my year 10 reports at the same time (probs year 9 for you guys down-under?)...
I am thinking of you and poor little Boris.
Re: your PTS questions, Boris will let you know when he's ready. It's the only sensible advice I can give you because that's the way I've felt for my two boys who passed. My friend F who had to make that decision for her cat last week said exactely the same. We agreed that on the day our furries past/had to be PTS, they were just 'different'. I guess, if you're not sure, it's probably cos the time isn't quite right. Trust your instincts.

He's still fighting on... What a boy!

Lots of hugs for everbody from me and specially from Glynis as well!

Really rooting for your Boris. I do hope he manages to pull through this as well, he is down but not out if he's still eating, sending lots of Get Well Wishes his way.

Sarah x

ok I'm back OH has offered to stay up with Boris so i can catch a few hours sleep,i think i have run myself into the ground recently with worry:...,will be on again before you all go to bed,Boris is still well and eating corn, crossing my fingers xxxxx

I'm doing the worrying for you - you get some sleep now!

What a RollerCoaster this is for you; I admire you so very much Bonnie, nobody could be a better, more devoted piggie-mum, and dear Boris himself is such a fighter. I don't know what to say, as everyone else has said it so well, but my thoughts are with you so much .... many, many hugs.

My thoughts are with you and Boris also.......you are both ace! Everything I have is crossed for the poor boy x

I am so sorry that Boris isn't feeling so well :( and I'm sorry you have such a tough decision to make. I can't really advise as I have never been through this as Connie died on her own. You know Boris the best and you will make the right decision. I'm sure that Boris still has some fight left in him and he has came a very long way. Sending lots of (((hugs))) and we are all thinking of you x
