Hello

I have had my darling guinea pig for about a month now. I was removing some soiled bedding this morning and found that some of the sawdust in te cage had turned orange? It was normal colour when I put it in there a couple of days ago. I think it was turned that colour by their pee? Kinda worried because not sure what it means :-(

Orange pee is most likely very strongly oxidised pee (i.e. it is clear when it leaves the body, but discolours in contact with air) or that has been discoloured by veg like carrots.

If you find more pees like that, I would recommend to see a vet re. potential traces of blood in the urine or a build-up of bacteria in the bladder. Hopefully, it is just a one-off.

Thank you:-) I have given them more carrots than usual this week so hopefully that is it! Quite new to them so was thinking the worst! Definitly keep my eye on them
