i've always been too scared to feed my piggies oranges but i cant help but wonder if oranges were ment to be eaten by guineapigs i'd love to hear what u think and it would be a great help to others as well as me. THANKS!

Typically no I wouldn't say oranges are a natural food source for piggies, potentially a rare treat if they found one but they're high in acid.

I tend to give my pigs the peelings instead, I think they actually prefer them to the flesh :)

You can feed oranges just not too often or too much, as it’s a fruit and high in sugar. I tried my girls with a few slices last time I was eating some and I can’t say any of them were particularly impressed by it. I find most of my pigs aren’t fussed with fruit. The only fruit they would kill for is apple.

I’m sorry I’m not sure why those posted twice and I can’t seem to find the delete reply option :S

tanks fur the help guys! my girls wernt to impressed by the smell or the peelings, but hazel had a little nibble on the flesh

Guinea Pigs do need Vitamin C, and oranges are a good source of that. But oranges are very acidy, so not too often. I am feeding mine oranges every few days until I can get some Vitamin C drops in the city. But I highly recommend just buying the Vitamin C drops, so you don't have to feed your pigs sugary fruits too often. My pigs love peppers, lettuce, parsley, carrots, cucumbers and the odd apple slice. :) My pigs actually refuse to eat the orange peel, unlike other peoples piggies above.

Vitamin C drops you add into water isn't recommended as it changed the taste of the water which some Piggies don't like and they end up not drinking. I have never given mine them. Plenty of fresh veg and they should be fine.

I'd also never thought of giving the peel! I'm going to try that I think, to see what my pair think of it in any case.
