So our long term boar Orlando started with a sore looking eye mid June - yet it wasnt causing him any pain at all. There is some calcification at the top of his eye. However he had lost his blink reflex so we have presumed it was at this point he lost his sight in that eye. He still has no reaction in it now.
Pressures all normal, no ulcers or scarring on staining.

By the end of June his eye had begun to turn blue. The vet believes his eye is beginning to calcify.

Not much change for a fortnight

However this is his eye today. Notice the blood vessels and the slight swelling.

So back to the vets it is 😔 Poor Lando.
It still doesn't seem to cause him any pain whatsoever, he's his normal gorgeous self. He is still completely blind in that eye. I've got a feeling it will need to be removed.

And to top it all off, Libby has started with some upper respiratory noise. It sounds very much nasal, but of course we will get it checked out. Particularly as she has developed a lump under her chin, in her "dewlap" area. We are concerned about cervical lymphadentitis...

So they're both off to the vets together! At least they'll be able to keep each other company.

Saskia from Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue is hopeful about eye injuries 🙏

If anything needs doing, he'll be going to Evolution Exotics referrals. That's where my house rabbit goes, she's brilliant and one of the top small furry vets in the country👌

Wishing you all the best. It needs an experienced vet. The internal bleeding is worrying.

Fingers firmly crossed for both piggies.

Good luck, I hope you get it all sorted. I never knew how much I would love Guniea pigs until I had them. They are just such amazing creatures. I wish you all the best and I know how worrying it can be. Fingers crossed
