Hey all!

Me and my fiance got our first very own pair of Guinea pigs! They are only about 8 weeks old and we've only had them for 2 and a bit days.
We've left them to get a little used to their surroundings, given them lots of yummy veggies to eat, talking to them lots and they've been hiding constantly for the first day and have started finally coming out and doing the zoomies together, deep purring? and booping noses (which is a dominance thing I think?) I'm not sure!

They are indoor piggies and we we're hoping to get them used to us and having occasional cuddles. We've tried stroking them a little as well as trying to pick them up for little cuddles just to get used to us.

However they really really dont like us putting our hands near them to the point were they both are chattering their teeth and getting annoyed with each other. Obviously we won't be horrible to them and force them but could anyone give us a little advice? As well as how long it could take for them to get comfortable in their new surroundings?

We wont them to love us so badly as we love them so much so anything to help would be great!

Thanks all in advance! 😊

Welcome to you and your new piggies!

Here's a thread on settling new piggies which should help to start with: Settling In And Making Friends With Guinea Pigs - A Guide
There's lots more useful info to be found in the "New and Wannabe Owners" forum and in the 'Guinea Pig Guides' section (see the link in the bar at the top of the screen). It's great though that they are starting to show their little faces and doing zoomies already! :)

Thank you all! Glad to be here for lots of like minded people! 😃

Hello and welcome. Piggies are awesome pets for adults and it’s so exciting having new arrivals. The more you put into them the more they will give back. The guides @Swissgreys has linked contain loads of really helpful information about settling them, handling them and understanding their chatter and behaviour. Have a good read and try out some of the piggy whispering tips. I’m sure that with patience and persistence you will have very friendly piggies who will enjoy a bit of a cuddle.
