Our darling little Russian Hamster, Igloo, passed away yesterday. We found her in lher house all curled up.
We got her from the RSPCA 2 years ago. We have no idea how old she was but she was definately an adult. About 6 months ago, she developed a tumour on her chest. The vet recommended a 1 week course of Baytril uncase it was an abcess. This did not work and we were told it was probably cancer. However, Igloo continued to be active and eat lots (she loved her food!) so the vet was reluctant to put her to sleep.
About a month later, she developed a tumour under her left eye which pushed her eye out slightly. Baytril worked this time, but she did lose her eye. The same happened in the right eye but we managed to save it. Riddled with cancer, Igloo continued to be active and still enjoyed her peanuts (we used to peel the red skin off for her!)
I am glad she went peacefully in her sleep. We buried her in the garden with some peeled peanuts.
This is how she liked to sleep...in the open air all stretched out!
Sleep tight our precious baby girl. Thank you for lightening up our lives
You were such a fighter and I am so proud of you for how you handled everything. We are truley honoured to have known you. Have fun at the Bridge poppet...we will see you again one day. All our love forever, Mummy and Daddy and all your furry cousins! x
