Hello!
I was looking for a bit of advice when I take my guinea pigs outdoors. Their cage is indoors but I have a run for them in the back garden. While the weathers warm I like to put the run in a shady part of the garden and sit outside with them while they have a run around and eat the grass. Lately because of the isolation there has been a lot of noises my pigs can hear from the garden eg. building work, music etc. Sometimes it bothers them and sometimes it doesn't. Is it unfair to them to bring them out? Or should I still do it for the exercise? Thanks for any help. :)

Being out and having access to the grass will be good for them! They will enjoy the exercise. They will get used to any new sounds though but Perhaps just monitor the situation and if they overly anxious by noise then bring them in

Ok thank you so much. Sat outside with them now and they seem ok, they don't mind long continuous loud noises it's more the sharp and sudden ones that freak them out.

Dog bark, car door, horn, shouting ,power tool startup, any sudden loud noise, will sent them running for cover, they are prey animals, this is their natural instinct, they safety instinct.

Yes. They are fine with trains going past, aeroplanes overhead, music, if a power tool is on continuously etc. They don't like shouts, banging, people dropping things, hammering etc. I was just wondering whether the benefits of being outside outweighs the fear they get from these noises.

Was thinking similar. We've got two 7 week old brothers and after a couple days one is already eating out of our hands and both running around with us nearby. They live indoors, but when is the right time to try an outdoor (or indoor) run? Thank you

At the moment with the current cold weather in the UK I wouldn’t suggest putting them in an outdoor run,but they could have supervised floor time inside. However since you have said that you have only had them a couple of days I would leave them for at least a week before you introduce any sort of floor time just to make sure that they are settled in properly.

Great thanks for the info.
