We are in the middle of sorting out an insulated shed, hutch and outdoor run with tunnels (from Runaround), so we are in a good position to get some guinea pigs. I’ve been doing plenty of reading of all the helpful information on this forum.

It seems bedding wise, fleece in a shed doesn’t really work, so having done some research, I’m looking at Easibed or Fitch paper bedding. The question (to anyone who might use either of these products) is around how much are you putting down in a hutch and how long does a bag (of whatever size you purchase) last for? To give me some idea of the cost and frequency of ordering required

Hello and :wel:
Sorry I can't help as my piggies like indoor. .
I'm sure someone soon will.
But we'll done for research 1st.

I also have a hutch in a shed.
I use aubiose (tricky to get hold of) or shavings and I'm just trying megazorb at present. The aubiose and shavings come in 20kg bales and the megazorb is an 85 litre bag.
I’ve got two 6ft hutches and one 5ft hutch to fill so I get through it quickly - plus I’ll use some on the shed floor for the piggies in winter (I use fleece in summer) . I buy a bale approximately every month to six weeks.
In terms of how much, i usually put a good inch or so (perhaps a bit more) in. It then gets topped with hay.

Hello and welcome
I use newspaper as a base and buy a bale of hay from a farm shop for outside day time housing . It costs £5 for a bale! I have a runaround tunnel here’s a photo, they have great fun racing up and down it it 😆
Here’s my two rainbow boys Bill and Ted enjoying their run and tunnel

Great set up. Love it,

@Piggiesandbuns - had seen you talking about your shed. So fleece might be a summer option? Good to know. Thanks for the info. Need to make sure whatever I choose I can easily get sufficient supplies

@Bill & Ted - looks like a good set up. Looking at a run attached to shed via upto12ft of tunnel to enable the run to move about, so lots of space, on top of their hutch and access to shed floor

Yes I use fleece on the shed floor in summer. The hutch is a disposable litter and hay year round (sometimes I just use newspaper under hay). I use the fleece simply because it’s such a big area and it saves a bit of money on bedding costs. I do play it a bit by ear because if it is a wet summer, then the fleece may not be such a good idea to use so I’ll stick with the disposable (fleece it can wick moisture from the air)
I tend to get the aubiose or megazorb from Amazon. Ive got Prime so I’ll go for whichever one is available on Prime. I also like Snowflake Soft Chip as well as the Snowflake shavings but the shavings are available at my local pet shop (aubiose, megazorb and the soft chip I can only get from Amazon), so this is why I tend to chop and change as to which one I use. I find it easier having several products which I like so it doesn’t matter if I can’t get one so easily.
