Any of you guys ever let your pigs run outside? (under supervision of course!).
When I was a kid we kept pigs off and on all through grade school. Now, looking back, we were not always the best owners. They got fed/watered and were well taken care of as far as we knew. But we didn't know they needed hay and fresh fruit, and that the vitamin C we were putting in their water wasn't a good idea. We were kids in the early 90s and we were going by what the guy in the pet store said, we didn't have no internet back then >.>.
Anyway, my Dad always liked to build stuff. So he took to building outdoor areas where the pigs could run in the summer time, complete with all sorts of toys and fun things for them to do, and hiding spots xD.
I remember one year he'd built one for them in our side yard, and somehow under the (not) watchful eye of my brother one of them got lose. It took us _months_ to catch that pig. It took up to living under the porch and we'd have sightings of it every now and again. Eventually Dad built a trap and managed to catch it.
The "trap" was a walled in area with food as bait, Dad waited for hours and hours until the pig got brave enough to go for the food. At which point, he swooped in with a piece of plywood to complete the "cage" and managed to wall it in. I think he failed at this 5 or 6 times before he finally moved in fast enough to catch my pig "Lisa". :p Dad was always about treating the pets well, he taught us at a young age that if you're going to keep animals you'd better do everything to keep 'them healthy and happy.
He's so dedicated that he spent hours and hours trying to catch a pig that was named after his ex-wife (my mom xD).
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else did this. We had a lot of room growing up, so building huge cages was never a problem. I always kept a good look out for birds of prey when I had the pigs outside though. You really have to watch 'them like a hawk, I had some smart piggies that seemed to be dead set on "break out of jail" over the years.
