Does anyone know much about Oxbow pellets? I've just concluded that it contains limestone and calcium iodate- which doesn't sound too good to me. I thought that Oxbow where the good guys? ;(
What are you guys use and what's the safest /best/ most natural pellet out there ?
I don't know about the limestone and calcium iodate but like you say, it doesn't sound too great if there is calcium added (and it is not naturally occurring, like in vegetables). I don't feed my guinea pigs pellets as they have an all natural diet, however one of my guinea pigs is very susceptible to bloating (liquid and gas) and vegetables make the problem worse. Because of this, I have to feed pellets again to make up for the nutrients she would get in veg (I will still feed vegetables, just not as much as before because she gets bloat from veg so easily). The best brand I have found is Rosewood Meadow Menu pellets. They contain all natural ingredients and are grain free. The pellets are also cold pressed, meaning that vitamins are not artificially added by the manufacturer (as heat pressed pellets contain artificial vitamins). The pellets also do not swell so much which is great! Some pellets do swell in the stomach because they retain water which can actually cause health problems. You can see the post I wrote here: Pets Palace TV - Guinea Pig Blog
So I will be buying the Rosewood pellets next because I feel this is the best brand available - you can get it from the range and pets at home
